People are crazy.  That is a hot potato. Even on religious forums there is fighting and they have to have taboo subjects.

Amen to that.  People can't even discuss a bacon sandwich without someone getting nasty. LOL

Please tell me where you can go online to discuss religion, and politics.

I was taught that you don't discuss politics or religion in a polite group setting because all hell will break out.....and usually does! Don't know IF this is a "polite" setting LOL! but I think the Q mods (good work all!) are trying to eliminate this. Some people cannot have a civil discussion without going kookoo crazy if someone disagrees with them. All I would really like back is the IGNORE button.....PLEASE!

Re: Is there a middle ground?

I think that on these forums if you have a difference of opinion with the OP and those that are in like mindedness with the OP you will get trashed. You will be called rude, judgmental ect. Well so be it I will continue to post my pov.

I also feel that since my political pov does not always fall into that of a conservative perspective fellow posters who had in the past agreed with me or had been pleasant to post with go out of their way to be negative towards me. Regardless if they agree with my post or not. Ironically I do not get this same treatment from thos who I know are of a different political view then my own.

So I think for some there is a middle ground a respect for the person but unfortunately for others if you do not share the same views on other subjects the inability to be respectful is lost.

Agreed. We now have people judging others as judgmental, rude, etc. because posters are expressing themselves well within the forum standards, not in any way delete-able, but if the OP or some bleeding heart on behalf of the poor poor OP doesn't approve, they ask for a thread to be deleted, closed, etc. Apparently the new "thing" on these forums is if others feel like it, they will aim to get threads deleted just because they don't think the thread should remain, regardless of not violating standards. And there are some moderators who just rubber-stamp poof.

Sorry for the double post my computer will not allow me to access the delete.

That being said I agree with you.  I am often taken to task and it seems at times like a personal crusade for those who may see my pov but can't get over how I may feel politically to be adult enough to agree or just not comment.

I had that happen yesterday and it was laughable.  How are we going to learn to get along if we can not respect difference? Telling me that I am rude and its none of my business? Wow that just was ridiculous. I gathered that the slew of posters who blathered on in agreement with the OP were allowed to make it their business but since I came from a different perspective I was being rude and it was clearly not my business.

I am neither attacking nor trying to pick a fight with anyone.  My intention is to shine light on the importance of the words we choose to use.

Rather than disagreeing with posts, it is rhetoric such as what I have highlighted that I believe is the root of the problem on these forums. Too often it comes across that unless every quoted reference (and can't we all find material to support our stances?) or voiced opinion is not accepted as gospel, then it is obvious the reader is neither adult enough to agree or just not comment, laughable, or ridiculous.  I will stop blathering on now before someone comments on how eloquently I missed the point (a phrase actually used as a "polite" retort to a poster).

Strive for respect instead of attention. It lasts longer.

DITTO THIS!  Seems like the moderators have an agenda themselves.

Not only that, they sell religious products.
