As for my car, it isn't even on there.

If it was, I would have them remove it, or disable it.

I have been around to backup just fine since 1989, and haven't needed it in all of those years, and don't need it now.

I know how to back up without it.

No piece of "technology" can ever replace good old fashioned experience.

I trust myself, not some computerized gizmo.

I don't think you can have it removed or disabled - think it's a government mandate. We have it -I don't like it and never use it.

I know of a former neighbor who crushed his young daughter while backing out onto the street from his drive way. He hasn't I'm told recovered from the trauma.

I think that many lives have been saved by this technology.

I'm sorry for your former neighbor.

But in all the years that I have been driving, and all the years that my dad has been driving, we have never had one single accident while backing up, and I am certain that we are not the only two people in the U.S. to have gone their whole entire driving lives, and not had a single accident while backing up, all without the use of a camera.

Can you explain that?

It isn't luck.

It's skill.

A skill that will disappear as technology does the driving and thinking for us.

@CrazyDaisy True, my DH did not want his phone hooked up to the onstar and they told him it was no longer optional. At least here in Fl. hands free calling is mandated on cars where it is available.

We have an SUV so the backup cameras are a real necessity since it is impossible to see all you need to see behind the car.

In 2011 I bought a Ford Fiesta. It had to be brought in from far away because I didn't want anything but the car and they made very few of them. It still has more than I want, like all the indicators on the dash. I traded in a 2008 Dodge Avenger with a whole lot of stuff that drew power, even when the car wasn't running. As a result, the battery went dead after a few days of inactivity and had to be jump-started. I hated that car. I love my Fiesta and dread having to replace it. The only thing I sort of miss is the automatic trunk opener. Remember the old VW bug commercial that said "it goes forward, it goes backward, it turns left, it turns right. Isn't that wonderful!" Why do cars need to be "connected"? And, now, they want them to drive themslves. Maybed, if you need all that stuff, you should just stay home.

Why are you so against an additional tool that makes driving safer? It by no means replaces looking around or using mirrors. Seems like you just want to argue for the sake of arguing.

There is another thread about computers and computerization making all of humanity incompetent, gibbering morons who can't tie their shoes without it. I don't buy that either. But I think that's the point here - that technology of any kind ruins everyone and everything. That's the program.

I had to hunt to get the model with a backup camera on my new car. Almost gave up because they were scarce, but I got one. Yes I forget to use it, lol. No, I don't use it every.single.time I put the car in reverse. For what I mostly use it for (parking lots and parking) I love it. It was worth the hunt.

I refuse to feel incompetent, unskilled or lazy because it's the opinion of a stranger that I am. Just...no.

We have 3 cars and the one I like best and drive most is the 1995 Toyota. This is our first Toyota and I really had no idea how reliable and trouble free they are! People rave about them and now I know why. Best part is no computer!

I haven't bought a "brand new" car in many years. I always get a low mileage, well maintained pre-owned car. The last time. I used a consultant that does all the leg work .... like a personal shopper for cars! What a great experience!

I suspect the next time we get a new car, it will be another pre-owned Toyota ... without a computer, if I can help it.
