Re: Is anyone "not" into Thanksgiving?

I am not necessarily against the holiday but my parents are gone, sisters and brother live hours away...and not close with sisters anyway.  Years ago we would travel to one sister's home, we had a great time until she turned on me.....we are welcome to go to a friends home with her kids, grands, etc but DH and I usually take off for a few days.   It is not the holiday I want but we make the best of it.

It's just myself, husband and teen son.  My son does not like turkey, so we do a Greek dinner.  I make dolmades with ground lamb and egg lemon sauce, Greek roasted potatoes, Greek salad and saganaki - flaming cheese, pita, tzaziki, taramasolata, etc.

It's actually more work than a traditional meal.  I love it though!  We make it our own.  It takes me about 2 hours to roll the dolmades.  I drink retsina.... watch a game or movie....get sauced.  Watching my son and husband devour the food is worth it!

I think it's supposed to get up to about 90 too in SoCal.....it will feel like summer in Greece!

I mentioned you today, not by name, and very mysteriously Woman LOL in a conversation on Chat about Thanksgiving dinner.  Just that not everyone does the turkey meal, some celebrate with their heritage food.  IMO that's a wonderful way to observe the holiday!

Even as a small kid, I was never into Thanksgiving — hated the food and the stuffy relatives🙂

The husband and I are presently out of state and will be on our own.  Neither one of us cares about the fuss of cooking a traditional meal, luckily.

I prefer everyday life to holidays.  Some of that comes from growing up with an alcoholic.

@Chickenbutt — Good to see you back.  I may have inadvertently spread a rumor about why you weren’t posting recently.  Sorry 😕.  I need to sit on my fingers more.

Hey Tansy!  No worries at all.  I am glad to see you.  Heart

Re: Is anyone "not" into Thanksgiving?

Wow.  I'm so sorry to hear so many don't care for Thanksgiving.  My family members are not local to me, but I'm fortunate enough to have close friends who have "adopted" me as one of them.  Fourteen of us are going out for Thanksgiving dinner, as we did last year.  I'm sure we'll have just as much fun as we did last year.  Prior to that, my best friend hosted and did most of the work.  It became just too much.

I'm thankful for my family (even though I won't be with them) and I'm thankful for my "adopted" family and I'm thankful for all my blessings.

Add me to the list of those not into Thanksgiving. I have no family in the area so no reason to bother. I'm also not into all the effort to do a big meal.

I try to be thankful for each day as they come.

I will watch football as that is a longstanding family tradition. Go Lions!!!

For us too, except we root for the Vikings.  May the best team win!

There's nothing to feel sorry for others about.  Smiley Happy

We all have our things we enjoy and things we don't.  No harm, no foul.

I just tend to reject this 'I feel sorry for you' type of thing.

@MickD oh yum saganaki and meat dolmades, my favorite. I can't seem to get the lemon potatoes exactly how I remember them though.

@chickenbutt. At the risk of doing the "I'm sorry" again, I am sorry...I didn't mean to offend you or anyone.

Re: Is anyone "not" into Thanksgiving?

I never have been. Even when i was young i didn't like it. There was always an argument at our house. I am a quiet person, and never cared for large gatherings. Plus there are to many people home and out, in ca. I am always happy for mon to come.
