They were threatening to strike and that would have been a real mess....and management knows it. UPS has long been the highest-paying company for package delivery services. I had a friend in grad school whose husband was a UPS driver. She drove a jaguar convertible so guess he was doing pretty well. Anytime a big salary or benefit boost happens, the consumer pays for it.

And every time an Executive gets a big pay increase or Christmas bonus, who pays for that?  The Customers!!!

@Kachina624  I tend to agree with you on this. It seems like unreasonable compensation for someone whose skills are basically having a clean driving record and a strong back. That's not to say they shouldn't make a decent living.

Nurses and teachers don't make that much.

@DottieBlue.  That has nothing to do with what we're  discussing.  The responsibilities and duties of executives are much more critical than those of a truck driver.

I don't think I've ever seen a thread of these forums complaining about what professional athletes get paid.

Right, you can choose whether or not you buy a ticket to attend a game.

But remember, it's the TAXPAYER who mostly pays for the sports stadiums, and we don't have a choice in that.  A corporation contributes some money towards the stadium and then the stadium gets named after them.  But they don't pay for all of it.

@Kachina624

I don't think the pay of most of these executives are commensurate with their so critical duties and responsibilites.

Let's agree to disagree.

@DottieBlue.  How in the the world would you know what their pay is and what their responsibilities are?  You don't.

@GenXmuse

And there is another "benefit" I don't think anyone has touched on.

My niece's best friend (a 25 year old single mother who had just purchased a house) lost her job during the pandemic.

She took a job at FedEx and as a result has the most smoking hot body!

And another little benefit--she made friends with every dog at the homes to which she delivered.

Win-win!

Those sound like the best benefits of all!

From NPR:

Under the tentative five-year agreement, existing full and part-time UPS Teamsters will earn $2.75 more per hour in 2023, and $7.50 more per hour over the length of the contract. Wages for existing part-timers will also be raised to no less than $21 per hour, effective immediately, according to a Teamsters statement.

New part-time hires at UPS will start at $21 per hour and advance to $23 per hour.
