Re: Is This Going Overboard????

This is a new experience for most of us. I am learning more everyday. I understand the caution.

Re: Is This Going Overboard????

terrier3: I would call it overreacting, but only because I think they are anticipating the phone calls from distressed parents and they wish to get ahead of that particular reaction.

Is that continuing to feed into the public's distress? Yeah, I think so. But the information about the teacher got out there (not sure how), and you just KNOW concerned parents were going to be calling with "what are you going to do about it?". Instead of them saying, basically, "We're not going to do anything because your fears are baseless," they are avoiding that entire scenario. Would you want to be the principal fielding those calls? Maybe they know it is overreacting, but since THEY don't want to be on the firing line, they might have just decided to go with the extreme and disinfect the school just so they can say they took EVERY precaution.

It's crazy, but where does it end? I read that the airline removed the carpeting and chair materials from around that particular seat. What about the airport? Is it disinfecting all the bathrooms, seats where the nurse sat, etc.?

I heard that it was 5 schools. As already said if it were your child attending those schools wouldn't you want them closed and cleaned? What is the alternative to ""going overboard""? Possibly getting sick with ebola?

I also just heard on ABC news two additional issues. A bridal shop that Nurse Vinson visited while in Cleveland has closed.

A Yale University doctoral student returned home after a research trip to Liberia. He was not in contact with any ebola patients. He didn't feel well and has a low-grade fever. He is now in isolation as ""an abundance of caution"" while awaiting test results to be ready in 24 hours. Don't you think it's better to be careful?

I agree.

focksie ... I wondered whether she was there to try on dresses and thought of the sweat of trying several on. I made a joke at the time, but ... you never know.

I personally think it's an over-abundance of caution but I don't have a problem with the precautionary steps being taken. Although it may have been more helpful if they knew the staff member had been on the same plane first. If it wasn't the same plane then why the upset.

Absolutely agree. I'd rather have an over-abundance of caution versus any possible risk.

My comment on this is that you just can't win. If nothing is done, people are up in arms. If you're proactive, then you are a chicken little and overboard. I just throw up my hands.

I guess it's no joke now. {#emotions_dlg.sad} I think all she was thinking about was her wedding prep and decided to take the gamble.

Dried bodily fluids with those infected with Ebola can live up to a few hours.

It was the same plane...but a DIFFERENT flight.

The staffer & the nurse were not in the same plane at the same time.

I understand that Terrier, that's why I said the same plane rather than the same flight.

From your OP:

local middle-school staff member may have been on the same plane
