An 88 year old, even one in great health, will tire more easily with the demands of travel and always having to be on one's toes.

Charles needs to step up to the plate and do his thing. Or pass these duties on to the next generation, if he isn't interested.

He's actually been doing that for decades. He has a busier schedule than the queen.

It's always a victory for me when I remember why I entered a room.

She is 88 and plans to give Charles most of her traveling duties. She will maintain control of things that do not require traveling. It is reported that she has finally made the decision for Charles to become king if she retires or when she dies, whichever comes first. I'm glad she didn't choose William for that job, he is young and should be able to have a life with his wife and children before becoming king.

It's not up to the queen to "choose" a successor. According to the laws of succession, Charles will be her successor.

I have read articles that this rule has changed and she could, if she wanted to, choose William over Charles I will check into it to be sure I read correctly.

I've read articles and spokespeople for the royal family have stated unequivocally that the queen will *not* retire.

Nope. What did change is that now the first born child, regardless of gender, will be the heir apparent.

I highly doubt that Her Majesty will retire..she took a vow to rule until her death.

The woman is 88 years old, it's time for her to slow down, even a little. Let Charles do most of the traveling and appearances for her...good for her!

I am more concerned with Prince Phillip...you do not see him in photographs lately, or in those walking to church services pics they show all the time. Friends of ours in Wales have told us that there is a rumour that he is very ill with colon problems, and that he is now an osotomate.

Some English bookies have closed betting (ie are refusing to take more bets) on the Queen abdicating this year, after someone in the Windsor area places a substantial sum that she would.

I don't see her standing down. She has a very strong sense of duty, and I'm not convinced the British public have warmed to Camilla.

I don't see her abdicating, either. Not because of Camilla but because of her sense of duty. On her 21st birthday, she declared her whole life to be dedicated to the service of her people.

She's fine. I wouldn't be surprised if she outlived Charles.

I wouldn't be either; she's a tough old gal.
