Hi ladies.

Thanks for al the info!

The trip isn't planned until Autumn. We will be driving and spending about 4 days in Asheville. We have looked at several travel sites and we're thinking about The Biltmore Village Inn but the Grove Park Inn looked nice, too, as did other inns, hotels and BandB's.

The Biltmore's Christmas decorations go up in November so we were thinking November but we want to be able to see the Autumn leaves and we're not sure if they'll be off the trees in November?

Mid-October should be peak for leaves. I have been in October and in November. By early November, most are gone.

It also can differ quite a bit depending upon the weather in the preceding months, so it can be iffy as to whether a trip planned well in advance will be able to hit the peak color days. It's certainly a gorgeous place, color or not. I used to drive to work each day on several miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway... what a glorious commute!

That's what I was afraid of. Wanted to combine Autumn leaves with Biltmore Christmas. Either way it will be gorgeous I am sure.

Thanks again!

Asheville is one of my favorite places to visit! I am lucky enough to go there on business -- I had work in exhibits and would go for the openings. I live south of Atlanta and can usually count on our peak weekend for leaves to be the first weekend in November.

Hey you, get off of my cloud...

My in-laws live right off the BRP but up further in VA. IF you know where Mabry Mill and Chateau Morrisette Winery is . . .that is the general vicinity.

BEAUTIFUL.

Maybe one day we'll move there. Not sure I could handle the winters though. I'd have to buy me a little Subaru Forester or Outback for sure!

Oh, yes! I know the area so well. They do get some wintery weather, depending upon which area you're in. I spent a lot of time on the stretch of the Parkway between Asheville and the Roanoke/Salem area, in both cases we lived just a mile or so from the Parkway itself. I literally said a prayer of gratitude every time I drove to and from work, looking out over the valleys and all the magnificent changes from one season to the next.

Absolutely majestic.{#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

Yep. So beautiful. They are probably less than a mile by way a crow might fly once you leave the pavement of the Parkway.

We don't go for holidays anymore. One year we went for Thanksgiving and right before we got there, I guess at a certain altitude the trees were all iced over and another year we went right after Christmas as we were going to dip down to Research Triangle and get our new Sheltie puppy from the breeder and the road to go there from their house included the route with the lookout point called Lover's Leap . . . I'm sure you are familiar with it . . . and I said NO more in the winter, spring and summer visits ONLY.
