According to the vet, they're OK to use and not harmful, but do they work? We live on a little under an acre and would like to be able to let our new Golden Retriever run in the yard. We are not going to build a permanent fence and yet the friendly nature of our dog makes me wonder if he'll always be able to remember to stay within the boundaries or if he'll think any passerby is a potential new friend who wants to play. Someone would always be outside with him, but DH & I still feel we need something to help him learn and remember the limits. I have a friend with a slightly smaller yard who has used a Petsafe Wireless Fence so now my husband is leaning that way, even though he hasn't done any kind of research on the topic. My understanding is that wireless units will cover a certain circumference from where the base unit is located and while buried wires can be more exact and installed on the perimeter. I think the best of both worlds would be a wireless unit that reaches far enough to cover our entire yard (or very close to it) in all directions.
Any recommendations or warnings would be appreciated.
