International Shipping

[ Edited ]

I heard a news report yesterday describing a deliberate work slow-down by longshoreman in West Coast ports.  They are calling in sick in large numbers which is delaying the unloading of newly arrived ships.

They said we can expect to start to see some delays in receiving merchandise and possible shortages.

The good news was that goods most commonly being shipped at this time are Christmas and other seasonal merchandise.

Valerie may be pulling her hair out. Such a shame if CIJ merchandise was to be delayed.  Maybe we'll have Christmas in September.....Oops, we already have that.

Besides the Ho,Ho about Valerie, many parts are made over seas. Car parts, appliance parts, electronics, meds. We just had to have some work done on our AC and many of those parts were made overseas.

Doesn't sound good.

@Kachina624

Did the report say what their gripe was?

Wages?

Let's not let another perfectly good crises go to waste! Esp since holiday merchandise is arriving.

Retailers will go forward with price gouging and blame it on shortages.

If it's not in stock and ready to ship, I ain't buying and will  skip "advance orders".

@RespectLife    Primarily wages.  Everyone is feeling the pinch.  Nobody has enough money.

Sounds to me like someone did not get their expected payoff. whistling.gif

West coast ports and terminals are shutting down after union workers walked off the job after a failure in negotiations with port management.  White House urged to step in.

This union has always been strong and has shut things down several times over the years.

Think the current talks have been going for a year.

Didn't Bush have to be called in once?  A rough group to deal with.
