America refused entry to a ship carrying Jewish people looking for sanctuary. Almost all were killed.

We have several friends whose families were murdered by the Turks.
Horrible atrocities.
I always promise myself not to cry when I think, read or watch the Holocaust but I fail each time. I can't explain how connected I feel to the victims and surviving families. Perhaps just sharing the sorrow of our lost ancestors.
There were Greeks murdered in 1895 in Turkey also. Please send my regards to your friends from another descendant of the Armenian Genocides. Hugs.

Hugs to you, also, @Mustang Shar
I understand your grief.

Thank you Beth for reminding me NOT to cry out loud. I cleaned up my reply to a poster. I was crying...I cry for the souls. Bless you

There is a marathon showing right now on AHC (American Hero Channel). I am watching it to be more aware of World History (which was a bit boring as a student). Now, as an adult, I am paying attention.
It is a real eye-opener to hear the firsthand accounts from the survivors, such as twins, that were spared only because they were used for scientific research.

Sadly, there has been torture, devastation, murder of people all through history, but the Holocaust was unique. It was a planned annihilation of an entire people, rounded up without mercy with intent to wipe them (us) off the face of the earth forever. Remember not to promote victimhood but to champion… survival. It is a lesson in beating all odds and coming out champions. Less than 0.2% of the world population numbering approximately 15 million Jewish contributions are astonishing.

Remembering what was done to millions of people is in no way championing victimhood.
It is exposing what some are capable of.
