Interesting video re: Cochlear Implants

Thought others might be interested in this. It replicates what sounds are like to someone wearing a cochlear implant. About 5 minutes.

Re: Interesting video re: Cochlear Implants

I know a little about this as my brother's stepdaughter was one of the first Cochlear implants and traveled the country for Dallas Hearing Institute to give lectures and share her story. Her mother (my SIL) has told the story of her hearing her first footsteps coming down the hall. This is truly an amazing device. Thanks for sharing this.

Re: Interesting video re: Cochlear Implants

I have younger relatives with cochlear implants. One was born deaf, the other started losing hearing at the age of 2. They received their implants in their mid-teens after hearing aids no longer were useful. One has just the implant, the other uses a hearing aid in the other ear.

I don't know if it's still the case or not, but insurance didn't cover the cost for either one of them. Both were funded by an outside organization. This is something that should be a given......

eta: Somewhere out there is a tape recording of what those with a hearing loss hear, both with hearing aids and without. I listened to it as did the kids' teachers in the regular classroom. To say it was an eye-opener is an understatement.

Hi kdgn. Did you open the link I posted? It demonstrates what people hear with the Cochlear Implant vs. what hearing people hear.
