I won a 15% off coupon from HSN's latest spin to win game. I decided to use it today on an item.

The item had an "on sale" purchase price of $97.93. I placed it in my shopping bag. I went to checkout and entered my coupon code for 15% off. Well, I got 15% off - of a price that was now jacked up to $139.90 - which was the "crossed out" price listed as the "HSN price" for the item!

I've never had that happen before. I realize there are always some items you can't use the coupons on, but I've never seen the price go UP when using a coupon code! The 15% off the jacked up price would have saved me $20.99. If I purchase the item without the "code" I would save $42 off the HSN (jacked up) price.

Very odd. I've decided to not buy the item.

I have never been able to use coupons there on sale items.

I would contact them and tell them what happened. If for some reason you couldn't use the coupon on the item, you would get a message to tell you that.

I've never had an item go up like that when using a coupon but I did have an item go down in price during the check-out phase. I think I happened to be in the buying process when they were marking items down in the computer. When I put the item in my cart it was over $30.00. When I went to check out, it was down to $9.00 and change!!

After I checked out, I went back to that item and the price was showing the $9.00 and change clearance price.

Just wish they would offer an honest discount for a change. Below is from the "details on my coupon email"

Excludes expedited shipping, Todays Special, This Day Only offers, and clearance items and can only be applied to the first shipment of AutoShip items.

That sounds like they're starting to be like some of the department store percent off coupons. There are so many exclusions, I thought I might take the coupon in to the store and ask what CAN I buy and get the discount? The list would probably be much shorter than the list of exclusions!

Many times items that are shown on air with event pricing or sale pricing, are on the website as clearance priced and therefore, the coupons cannot be used.

I wonder if the OP went back to that item now, what the price on the site is?

Also, HSN loads the TS into their system by about 10:00 EST. The price will be the reduced TS price but it's not reflected in the system as the TS yet so a coupon can be used. Once midnight hits though, you can no longer use a coupon on the TS.

It did that when I tried to use a coupon on daily fix! Weird! Simply display a msg instead saying the coupon is not valid on sale items.

you have to read the details of the coupons.....
