Re: Interesting Bit of Information About Daylight Savings Time

Another interesting bit of information:  It is Daylight Saving Time, not Daylight Savings Time.

I still can't figure out how to 'save time'. The clock just keep ticking no matter what you do to the hands. To me the entire DST thing is absurd.

According to my local meteorologist, it's Daylight Saving Time, no "s" at the end of Saving.  And it was introduced by Benjamin Franklin in the 1700's.  She claimed that it has been with us ever since.  I can't vouch for the validity of her information as I am not a history buff.  I just wish we would go back to the previous iteration where it started about a month later in the year.  I hate getting up when it's still dark outside.  That change was in the 1990's I think, during the time of VCR's and none of our electronics were able to automatically adjust to it.  So, I would have to set my VCR forward until the automatic DST set in the VCR and then remember to then roll it back.

@Icegoddess  Ben Franklin did not invent DST but did suggest extending daylight to the Parisians in order to save/extend the use of candles and oil.

Just some trivia I learned somewhere long ago. It could be altered.

[ Edited ]

Keep in mind that I don't have any children/grandchildren walking to a bus or to school in the dark .......

In fact, around here, I haven't seen any children walking to elementary school, even in the daylight.  Lots of moms dropping off and picking up via cars.

I've been thinking, for myself, I just might prefer having more daylight at night......more sunlight hours to keep my house and West facing rooms warmer.

But, I'm not completely sure about that.

I'll have to think about it a bit more, maybe writing down pros and cons, etc.

It helps (me) to make a list when I can't decide.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

All I can say is my Frenchie, Boomer was absolutely not having it!! He looked at me like I was out of my mind when I got up at 6 a.m. and promptly dropped his head back down on the bed and began snoring, lol. We are not the only ones who dislike the change.

The time on the clock does not change the number of hours of sunlight.

@In-x-s     No..........but it gets dark  an hour earlier on standard time.   It's the BLAZING SUN that can kill you around here.    It's not so bad if the SUN isn't beating on your head while your grilling your steak on the outdoor bar-be-que............

LOL thank you for clarifying.  I'm in the upper midwest and I prefer the change to daylight saving time.  If it stayed as standard time here it would be light at 4:30 a.m. and be dark by 8 p.m. during peak summer months.  I much prefer the light later in the evenings when I;m able to enjoy it.  Our temps rarely get up into the 90s even in the summer months.
