I recently posted about a male, black cat that was eating in my backyard. He had an injured front paw that he was unable to walk on. He walked very slowly on his three legs and I was very concerned about him.

The local rescue group I volunteer with was willing to pay for his vet bill if I could trap him and get him to a vet. I tried several times wtih no sucess and then I no longer saw him. I thought the worst.

I continued to leave my back gate open so he didn't have to try to jump my wall to get to the food and water I leave in my backyard at night. Just in case he was still alive and eating.

Last night, I saw him! He is thinner and not as well groomed as usual, but he is now walking on all four paws. He does favor the paw that was injured, but it was great to see him putting some weight on it.

I am so relieved and I wanted to thank those of you that put him in your prayers and thoughts. I know he is just one little cat, but it is so difficult to know he was in pain and nothing I did helped. I knew nature would have to take it's course with him and luckily, he won out!

Again, my thanks.

Good news, I wish you could trap him but at least he will eat.

I trapped him before to get him neutered and I think he remembers that experience!

lvenjay..

That's such wonderful news.

Bless your beautiful heart for all of the TLC that you're giving to this precious boy.

Hopefully he'll take up permanent residence in your yard.

Is there anyway you can put out a little dog igloo in your back yard for winter? I'm assuming you don't have dogs. Some ferals want to stay outside all the time.

I know the people down the street have a tiny doghouse set up under the bushes for the cat they use to have. I haven't seen him since last year but he use to be outside most of the time.

Re: Injured cat doing better

Yes, I have several in my backyard complete with blankets and comforters I bought at thrift stores. I change them out every season as they get dirty and sometimes they spray the blankets.

Good or bad, I have been doing this for almost 20 years! I have unfortunately seen them come and go and have paid to have some cremated when I found their bodies. Some get hit by cars, some I don't know what they die of. My vet is really good to help me out with discounts for my feral cats.

I have learned there is only so much I can do. I have three ferals in my house right now that I can handle, but no one else can. I have others that I trapped and brought in, but were tame at some point in their lives, so have adjusted better. At my age, this is becoming a difficult job. Emotionally and physically.

I appreciate everyone's thoughts and comments!
