Kanazawa Japan. Circa the 1300s (I don't know the date; it was during the shogun era) the town had a vote: they would focus on gardening, putting gold leaf on objects, making Kutani pots (which I collect) and Noh drama.

They voted against war.

It didn't stop war, but I feel in their community the commitment to making, rather than destroying. It runs deep. I love that city.

Darn those HGTV house hunter shows -- can't get lovely Maui out of my mind. Stayed for 9 days two years ago. I could go for a month next time.

Just made lodging plans for Door County, WI with the girlfriends in June -- North Carolina mountains with the handsome husband in late September. Fly fishing, hiking, and just being outdoors together. Will drive around my parents' hometowns. Fabulous grandparents memories.
