The Walmart here has 26 cashier lanes...usually only one is open. There are 16 self check-out stands. Long line to use them but the line is always moving fast...they have upgraded the check-out software so it actually works without stalling over and over. No-brainer for WM. They have far fewer on the payroll.

I love self checkout except when someone has 50 items and is super slow scanning! They should not be in self checkout holding up the line!!

"Keeping people employed" is the most asinine reason for not using self-checkouts. Curiously, those same people have no problem availing themselves of ALL of the technological advances which have reduced workforces in any number of consumer-based industries.

It's probably just as well. They're the ones who'd be holding up the works.
