60's - "A Hard Day's Night" - Beatles rocketing to popularity and such a big part of that decade.

It may not define a decade, but for me it was "FlashDance from 1983. I just loved that movie. I have the DVD and still play the soundtrack.

I grew up in the 70's. First movie that comes to mind has already been mentioned for that decade, and that is 'The Deer Hunter".
TCM just ran 'Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore' a fav movie of mine - not only for Ellen Burstyn's performance but for the SOUNDTRACK! This movie screams 70's to me simply for the great music - Mott the Hoople and T Rex stand out and the story I think is one that most people adrift in the 70's could relate to. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. Directed by Martin Scorcese, with a young Kris Kristofferson and Harvey Keitel.

First one I thought of for the 1960's, barely, was Easy Rider.

@SandySparkles To define a decade does not mean a film would have to be made in that decade. Often time and retrospection provides a more insightful film. Also getting monetary backing and actor availability could affect the timeframes. One could also say that Once Upon Time in Hollywood defined 1969 though the movie came out in 2019.

I think there is a bit of confusion here. It is not what film we might like the best, but a film that truly shows what life was like for people. It doesn't matter what year the film was made..it is a film that speaks the truth about life during this decade
Some of us tried to post this in another thread ,and got hammered for it, but post what you wish..it's just a bit of fluff, not rocket science
