We had hail a couple years ago. A few weeks later everyone in the area were getting new roofs. We wondered why DUH! Neighbors advised us to have our roof checked. We couldn't see any damage but it turned out we did have some and so the insurance company paid for a new roof and gutters. So glad the neighbor suggested we look into it!
All this to say, even if your hail didn't seem to do damage it still could have. Good idea to have it checked out.

I just had a new roof and gutters replaced b/c of hail. The old roof and gutters were very old and I don't have recoverable depreciation coverage in my policy so I had to pay for all of it out of pocket plus I have a high deductible. It was a big expense. My ins paid me nothing and I still have more hail damage to fix on the rest of my house...paint and carpentry.

The roofers in my city due to the hail storm back in February are going to have a very Merry Christmas 2024. Goes for all the pop up automobile hail repair trucks as well.

That's a very good idea. I know a lot of people experienced devastating hail storms.💝🌸

We had a devastating softball sized storm three years ago. It demolished about a 4 sq mile area we live in. It took two years from some to get new windows--Covid work and materal shortage.
Insurance paid 1/5 of what we paid for the house. It was a nightmare getting it all repaired. You can't SEE all of the roof damage always.

Why would it matter how old the roof was? It still was damaged by hail. I don't understand why the insurance didn't cover any of it?
That just doesn't seem right.
Not that insurance always seems fair.

WOW! Our insurance covered everything except about a $2,000 deductible and the roof was about 16 years old. We also upgraded to a better shingle that added to our own cost but it wasn't much.
Our company is "Jake at..." ![]()
DD's insurance covered most of hers and it was really a blessing becsuse the roof was going to need replacing within the next year or so it was so old. Don't know who her company was. I think it was one of the online companies.

It doesn't seem right to me either. The way it was explained to me was that since the roof was so old, it needed to be replaced anyway regardless of the hail damage or not. Plus the cash value of a roof depreciates over time and mine was old so it didn't have much cash value. Same goes for the gutters. That's where recoverable depeciation policy comes into play which I don't have.

I'm sorry that happened to you.
It doesn't seem fair at all.
