Another weak link....we got a call from our lawyer's office that all their files on everyone's estate stuff was stolen from their office ( all those important numbers not very well protected) in an office burglary. Great. We "froze" everything. Be prepared. All identity theft is not just online!

Just curious....Do you know what happens if I freeze my credit accounts and I go to buy a big purchase like a car?  Would the car dealer be able to get a credit rating on me without a bunch of rigamarole?

You will have to temporarily unfreeze your credit using the PIN # that you were given when you froze it. You can indicate exactly what dates you want the freeze to stop and to start up again. I was able to do it all online last time. Just don’t lose that PIN #.

@shoesnbags.... Sounds easy enough.  I was glad to read that you actually did it so you know how it actually works.  Thanks a bunch.  Appreciate your response.

We froze our credit with all 3 agencies several years ago after the Equifax breach.  One of the 3 charged us $10 each to freeze, but since then the government stepped in and said nope, can' no longer charge for that.  We applied for a car loan and the dealer told us which service they used, so we unfroze that one for 24 hours.
