My sister retires next Friday (3/1). I am thrilled for her. If not for her health I think she would keep going. Last sumer she was diganosed with congestive heart failure on top of disbetes and severe arthritis. Sorry got of track. She has to go for part of the day, something to do with insurance. I told DH I would like to go down and surprise her a work and then go to lunch. She wears earrings and a neckless now and then. Not a big jewelery person. Flowers will just die. I thought of gift cards so she and her DH can go to dinner. Truthfully, I'm stumped. She loves to draw and paint. She is very talented. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

what about a gift card for michaels, or hobby lobby. painting supplies can be expensive. make a nice basket, a good coffee/tea, hand cream, shower gel, cookies. just fun indulgent stuff. throw in a fun pair of earrings. coming from you, she'll probably appreciate most anything.

@kittyloo Michael's gift card is a great idea. I have 2 paintings she did for me hanging in my home. I have no artistic ability and envy what she can do.

A gift (or gift card) of art supplies sounds nice. She'll have more time to devote to doing something she loves and should appreciate the gesture. Another idea is a getaway day for just the two of you. This could be tied into seeing a show, or concert, with dinner and an overnight hotel stay. No hubbies just the sisters.

How about a gift card for a message or mani and pedi?

Depending on how much you would like to spend, a nice bunch of fresh flowers with your specifially chosen gift card tucked in the bouquet.....

Get her flowers anyhow, yes, they'll die but they're an extravagance that she deserves. Maybe something sweet like white daisies with her favorite Spring flower here and there for color. That, and a basket with goodies, will make her day, I'm sure! I wish both of you to have a good time!

I love the idea of something you can do together. My sister and I are very close and I would rather have lunch with her at McDonalds than a luxurious spa day alone.
