And they will not smile and laugh when remembering a message the way they will when the memory or 'that' day comes back to them . . .

Cute pic, and so very true...When my granddaughters and even my grandson would come for the weekend, we would always be outside enjoying the fresh air and around here summer is only 3-4 months, so better get out there and enjoy it.
My granddaughters live right by a small lake, and they go swimming and boating all summer. It surely beats sitting in the house with an IPAD all day!

However, they'll not get Lyme from a tick, drown in a lake, get abducted by a stranger, learn another language, make a friend in Japan...There are benefits in both, one doesn't exclude the other.

You are correct, but not in the world I grew up in the 40's and 50's in San Francisco, Cal. You could walk down Market St at midnight and no one bothered you. We live in a different world today. I'm glad I grew up then.
People communited face to face. Families ate dinner together. Discuss their day problems, respected their parents and the elderly and teachers and it was a better world on the whole in spite of what problems arised.Neighbors looked after the children that were playing outside. I never see anyone playing outside anymore or hear their laughter. Im going on 90, use the computer and cell phone. I would be isolated if I didn;t.
I am fortunate, my neighbors do keep a check on me by phoning or coming to my house, but how many elderly are alone with no one to check if they don't use a computer or at my age have no knowledge of how to use a cell or computer. How many families actually sit down and have dinner together and talk to one another without a cell phone.
I see people walking down the street with their head down and phone in hand missing the world around them or the beauty of the day.
Yes, we do have more info., but it's not safe with hackers. I miss hearing the laughter of little kids outside playing or riding bikes, but I can goggle whatever I need to know and not have to look it up by reading books.
So, you are not wrong, but its a sad world today.

My childhood was the same as yours.
The neighborhood I live in now is safe and children still play outside, ride their bikes but it's a small community.
