Never heard of "estimated taxes" must be a business
thing.
I'm an individual and have to pay estimated income taxes since I choose to not have any taxes deducted by my income sources.

@kismet I hope it all gets put right! Frustrating! I have payed with a form, quarterly by mail for 10 years. Sounds like an incorrect account number used as you mentioned. People can and do have several accounts!
I pay individual estimated taxes quarterly due to inherited stock investments. I was to receive a Federal refund which is a first in years , as I assume overpaid quarterly taxes for 2025. Paid in 2025 quarterly on time by mail. An on line option was mentioned by my accountant, but I used the paper form along with a check. My State refund was fine and deposited timely. No questions asked. I pay quarterly taxes for State as well.
I have an Tax Accountant. The refund is under REVIEW for 60 days. I was going to use the refund for tax credit and thus only have to pay in two quarters this year.
First I received a letter demanding a verification of my I.D. My tax preparer helped me through it. She had another couple that had it asked of them also. Then I receive two more letters saying under Review for two months.
I was told the IRS never gives a reason. My Accountant thought possible issue with the Social Security number and by someone else trying to use mine?

I have a CPA and financial advisor. I make enough money from investments alone that cause me to have to pay quarterly.

I will never ever get it! You know I was thinking should I even post this but I just typed out the website I didn't use a link or copy and paste anything! So how could there be a link? Now that I see my post it was edited to remove outside link and I didn't even edit it! Twilight zone for sure.

Quite a few years ago, the IRS sent my husband a letter stating that he owed money. We already paid when we filed.
Someone processed the return under my name and SS only. We filed jointly.
I was nervous when I called them. I told the rep that they cashed the check and the bill was already paid. I had to send a copy of the cancelled check to them.
They called me and explained it was their processing error and we received another letter stating that we didn't owe them.
It was stressful. This was back before online filing.

I too pay my quarterly tax estimates online. I used to mail them but a few years ago I mailed them (certified letter even!) and they got lost somewhere and were never received by IRS. Never mail them again.

No, not at all. It's just an income thing. Once your taxed income is above a certain level, you have to pay your taxes on a quarterly basis. Those payments are "estimated taxes" because there's no certainty as to how much you might owe until the year ends. Doesn't matter if you have a CPA or not - you still have to send Uncle Sam those quarterly payments.

I do have the paperwork from my CPA to send it in by mail. Last year the IRS sent me the coupons and envelopes. This year I decided to do it online. Since my husband passed my taxes have been so high. Investments and interest causes a lot of the taxes. One person and not two makes a big difference. Never had to pay estimated taxes before. I remember getting a letter from the IRS, think it was last year, that all my accounts are reported to the IRS. Guess nothing is private anymore. Going to pay later today with my credit card. I will get points on it. Just can't win when older. I'm thankful that I can keep the house and live in comfort.

I got a letter today from the IRS that there's not enough in the account. Called the bank and for some reason the routing number is the same for several accounts. I did put the checking account in and they took it from savings. No didn't take any photos but will from now on.
The routing number would be the exact same for any and all accounts from the same bank. Unless your accounts are one digit off and that digit was entered off incorrectly, the error has to be the bank's. The IRS wouldn't have that savings account number.
@Tori3569 @kismet the routing number woukd be the same, but each acct has a different number. I have one bank with 3 accts. Same bank, same routing...but each acct has a different number. I have done this and never had issue, not with IRS though. iDK if I would trust IRS with my acct number, lol. Ise check or AMEX. Amex is safest method plus points
