@MG Chris wrote:I guess I don't understand. Blaming the company it was a business decision. If the sales aren't there people have to go.
You won't see a CEO take a pay cut from their multi-million salary + stock gifts + bonuses so they don't have to lay off employees or cut employee pay.
There are countless ways to cut costs but big corporations always cut employees or benefits first because it's easy and doesn't affect thost at the top.
I was high enough up in a huge corporation to know the ins and outs of what they do and their decision making. Don't expect loyalty to employees but they want loyalty from employees.

@geezerette wrote:No, they are not our friends--they are salespeople.
But QVC itself was the one that wanted everyone to be friends. They pushed it and still do. We're a big family, trust us, have fun, follow the hosts on their social media, etc.
And then they drop two well-liked (apparently), longtime hosts without a word.
They should have expected a reaction.
One of Q's biggest marketing tricks is to get people to think hosts are friends instead of just salespeople who happen to be on tv.
Big corporations don't care about reactions to firings. They only care about the bottom line and Q's is in the toilet right now.

Do you think that Dan Hughes is worried about you?

That's not what I said. I said, since they lost their jobs, they certainly did not get the same or equal opportunity like you are suggesting. You're saying they will do just fine. What is the definition of fine? They lost their job, their high paying job. Those who have been fired have not done as well afterward. Period.
@Effie54 People are let go all the time. Businesses are businesses, not welfare agencies and decisions are made to keep the business running that are bad. But I'm sure they are financially well off--not an issue.
Life is up to us to live, business isn't responsible for that. We decide that one. So I hope happiness is ahead for them as they have new opportunities to look forward to, families and friends to spend time with, new things to enjoy, more relaxed days.
Make of life what you have at the moment, take your cookies as they are passed as a friend used to say. I'm sure these two vibrant folks are dealing with the change in a positive way! So things change, and look for opportunities because otherwise you might miss blessings.

How many illnesses did those 400 have. Qurate didn't revolve around Dan and Carolyn.
Ridiculous to continue "assuming" it was due to health issues.
@They Call Me MR Wilkes not ridiculous. Companies with unions are limited to who they can fire. I worked for ATT and it took a lot to fire someone I can count on one hand when that would happen. QVC has no union so they can fire or terminate anyone as they see fit. So happens in the case of Carolyn and Dan long time employees. They can totally fire someone due to health issues and there is nothing that can be done about it. No one knows for sure but it is surely a possibllity

I throw in with the others about the younger shoppers not buying from the Q. It's just not done. Many of the products they offer aren't for the younger generatjions. The clothing is matronly and not what a younger buyer wants to own or wear. Yet I wouldn't want to wear what the younger gals wear either. They don't have any sense or education in quality.
The Q will sign itself off into history with their home/kitchen products as the younger gals don't cook or even set nice tables.
Glad I've been a part of history.

Customer almost from the beginning. Now little or nothing. High prices. Can buy more easily on Amazon and as a prime member I get free shipping. I also buy online from other companies... Blair, Zulily for example. And honestly I keep saying this, the hosts are not my friends.. if I tune in I want product information. I am not there for personal information or idle chatter.
