I'm even older than Carolyn, but when I was 62 years old I was laid off my job as an administrative assistant, being with the same company 30 years. That employer did me a favor. Even at age 62 I had 4 job offers all at the same time. I just recently retired at age 69 last summer, and I'm finally able to set my own schedule.

I predict QVC will go under one of these days. Young people don't shop here, they shop online at Amazon and other places besides the malls.

Maybe, maybe not. How many former show host that I've been fired actually do well afterward? Ask yourself how many? I can only think of Lisa Robertson (I know she quit) opening her own online boutique. Did she do as well? Who knows. But the rest, have not.

How do you know how well people do after leavin? Because you don't see them on TV they are not doing well? I'm not in TV and am doing just fine

@Effie54    Effie.  You have no idea how the former hosts are doing.   You cannot judge all the hosts who have been laid off by Antonella.

I agree it was a sad day to see Dan and Carolyn fired... They had a nice way of selling their products... almost as if they were talking to a friend.  Some of the hosts are so frustrating with their sales pitch.  EG:  Over talking the guests, interrupting, and pushing the product. Many times I just turn them off.

Dan and Carolyn were a valuable presence on the Q.... Bad Mistake!

Other senior Hosts had better start looking for another job... seems as if the price of experience is too high for the company... unfortunately this move will cost them dearly.

I posted this a while back on another thread but it seems to me like QVC may have terminated those 2 hosts due to medical issues. I remember over the last several years both had serious medical problems and were out for a significant period of time. Don't know for sure but it does seem like a possibility

A large company will not terminate an employee for an illness. However, if they’ve run out of FMLA time, PTO, vacation time & unable to return to work, they can be terminated, legally.

QVC is a business & not a charitable organization & can’t keep an employee who can not perform all functions of their job.

Many people have had their jobs eliminated. Decisions are made based upon criteria & are well thought out, especially when older employees are involved. No one knows if Carolyn or Dan were good & productive employees. You only see the public persona.

Bottom line, stories re lawsuits, QVC & their terminations have not appeared in the media, and, they would. I have been on both sides, one doing job eliminations & my job was eliminated back in 2013 when our department closed. Many people reported back that it was the best thing that happened to them & new doors were opened & for me, I was thrilled & ready.

No one ever seems to have concerns for the other 400 QXH employees terminated on the same day.

How many illnesses did those 400 have.  Qurate didn't revolve around Dan and Carolyn.

Ridiculous to continue "assuming" it was due to health issues.

No one here knows what really happened. Purely speculation.

I would think that most hosts who are no longer with the Q have moved on and done well for themselves and their families.

I agree. I can not watch a Christmas show knowing Dan Hughes will not be there. Poor choice QVC, I can think of a few hosts that could have been let go.  So much for loyality 34 years and they are gone. Shame on you QVC.

Seriously?  Sorry, but I find these comments to be absolutely baffling!

Are you saying you are "incapable" of dealing with a salesperson who isn't at least as old as you are?

QVC had to cut 400 jobs, not just two hosts.   Are you as upset about the others who were terminated?  If not, why not?

Businesses need to run at a profit, or expenses have to be cut.

Personally ... and this is just speculation on my part ....  I think both Carolyn and Dan had a retirement schedule in place and they were coming up to it.  If QVC gave them both severance packages that took them to their target dates, just how would they be suffering?

More than once a company has had to cut employees and they often ask the most likely if they'd rather have a good severance package ... or keep their jobs.   This is common.

Some younger employees with families would MUCH rather keep their jobs, while someone with less than a year from retirement would get an early, unexpected vacation.

I don't know why some posters think Carolyn & Dan are in bad shape now.   Perhaps the layoff date was a bit of a surprise, but I doubt they are hurting.

How would anyone know if they do well or don't do well? They certainly aren't going to brag about failures on social media.

One of Q's biggest tricks is to get people to think hosts are more than just salespeople who happen to be on tv.

Remember, Q is a huge corporation. Employees are just numbers. There is no loyalty to employees. They can pay a newbie less than a long-time employee. Only one CEO in recent history has taken a pay cut instead of laying off employees or cutting employee pay.
