Monday our local weather man said we are now in the 3 week stretch where the sun will set prior to 5:00. After this 3 weeks, it will start setting later and later but we lose daylight in the morning.
I work until 5 so now by the time I leave work, it's already getting dark. Last night our weather was so nice, I wanted to go for a good walk to enjoy it. By the time I got home, changed and got out the door, it was totally dark out.

I don't like these shorter days anymore either. I used to be fine with them through the holidays. I felt the early darkness was somehow enveloping and comforting and peaceful. And I still don't mind it so much through New Years.
But I so wish I could wake up on January 2nd to find it light out till almost 10 like it is in June! If not that, then at least have it be still dark at 5:30, but 70 degrees outside all evening long!
Am I asking too much??!!

I've had this one in my archives for years...
"Memory: The power to gather roses in winter." ~Anonymous
This is the first year I've had a difficult time getting used to the time change and the early darkness.

Rain or shine I get up between 2:30 and 3 AM and go to bed about 7:30... watch TV until I fall asleep. I like getting up early and getting stuff done early in the day... eat dinner early( about4PM). When I was working my schedule was so awful late nights, meals whenever I could eat.... now I have control over my life. Love it!

Our cats make sure we're up every morning at 4:45, whether it's the weekday, weekend, holiday, summer or winter. It's what we do. I give the furkids their breakfast, while DH takes the dog out.
When he and the dog come back inside, he empties out the dishwasher, while I go down to the basement and hop on the treadmill for 3.5 miles before grabbing my shower and getting ready for work.
That's our morning routine and it doesn't matter what day it is. It's what we do. I like being on the treadmill more during the summer because it gets light out earlier and I can watch the bunnies and the birds outside the basement window. Now, it's so dark outside that I don't even like looking out the window. (DH has started to turn the outside Christmas lights on so that I have something to look at while I'm on the treadmill. That helps. A lot.

This very morning was the first time in months my alarm woke me, which is set for 3:40 a.m. Usually the smell of coffee being made at 3:00 a.m. wakes me daily. I have been getting up in the middle of the night (week-ends too) for over a decade. I love to read so up and on the bike with a book and a cup of coffee on the tray next to me.
Love the short days and ready for darkness anytime after lunch.![]()

@YorkieonmyPillow, right after Christmas, you will notice that it will slowly start staying lighter a little longer. Then, in March, we go right back to daylight savings time......... The time will pass quickly.

During the work week , we are on a pretty good schedule. I go to bed about 9pm and get up about 530am......I am home from work by 415p, so I see a little sunlight. It is dark here by 5pm though, so sometimes in the evenings I feel sleepy and its only 7pm or so......I guess I don't mind it too much, but I love when the clocks go forward an hour, makes a big difference....I don't think I could live in parts of Alaska where they have that twilight for two months straight.........Now that would be hard to deal with........Then in June and July, they have 20 hours of sunlight-another tough thing to get used to....It sounds nice, but if you can't sleep during the day very well, it could be really hard to get used to!

That sounds very cozy.
I'm not dreading winter as much as you may think; I have so many projects and things to work on, I won't lack for things to do.
