I've never seen one in the wild before - just at parks etc where you pay to see them. Anyway it flew over the lake behind my house. All I could really see was the pink color and black beak.It was huge for a bird.  Heck, I didn't even know they could fly. I googled and it said that rarely, usually to migrate or seek food they will fly. My first flamingo sighting.

@151949.  Congratulations on your first flamingo!  I saw a bald eagle sitting at the top of a tree in Colorado a few years ago.  That was a thrill too,

In the past couple of years I've seen a few Roseate Spoonbills.  A couple of times in wetland preserves, but once when I was driving down a busy highway.  What a thrill!

I bet that was neat! Never knew they could fly, either. You usually just see the standing around on one leg. LOL!

Saw road runners at my MIL's house several times in years past. Silly me, I thought that bird was just a funny character in the Looney Tunes cartoons. Ya know:

"Road Runner, Coyote's after you.

Road Runner, if he catches you you're through."

Who knew he's a real bird? Beep Beep!

There is a bird "hospital" near here and because our lake has a lot of fish - when the birds are rehabbed they frequently release them in the game preserve nearby. For that reason we see bald eagles pretty often and we can see their nests in the trees across the street. We once got to enjoy a pair taking a birdbath in the lake right in our backyard. I wonder if that flamingo had been released here? I hope he sticks around and brings his friends.

@pupwhipped.  I see roadrunners around my neighborhood all time.  They lose their appeal when you see a baby bird hanging out of their mouth.  They are carniverous.

DH and I went to Bonaire to scuba drive.  One day we rented scooters and traveled the island.  We were surprised to see a flock (dozens) of bright pink flamingos in an isolated part of the island.  One of those unexpected bizarre sights....priceless!

It is always a thrill for me to watch ospreys hunt and or be in their nests.

I was once as close to a 4ft. great blue heron as I am to my computer; the camouflage was flawless and the bird didnt move a muscle! Neither did I; what a magnificent creature.

We have fresh and salt water in our area and aviary sightings are wonderful, especially the swans. But dont get too close, especially if there may be a cygnet hidden close by.

I havent seen a flamingo-what a treat! @151949

@151949 - I don't think he would be released in an area that had no other flamingos as they are very social birds and need others of their kind around them.

I've seen Roseate Spoonbills many times in the preserve near me when I'm in Florida, and just saw a couple of flamingoes there this past spring. We jokingly wondered if they were on the lam from Sarasota Jungle Gardens!
