@Puzzle Piece   Personally, I haven't entertained or have had holiday meals with just family with anything "formal". Sometimes it's paper plates and plastic utencils.

I think linens, flatwear had their day, but most people are very casual now. BTW, these items are offered at much less the cost at other retailers and most likely stopped selling well at Q.

It's not just QVC. It's the same at brick & mortar stores. Those departments have gotten smaller and smaller and the quality has changed in some lines. Many lines can no longer be found in stores.

There has been a shift in what people are buying. QVC reflects that.

The reason we don't see nice things like nice dinnerware, glasses, linens and flatware is that people aren't buying that stuff.  You may have some very fine quality items but consignment shops won't touch it because they can't sell it either.  Try settling the estate of someone who had fine things.  You'll end up literally giving it away.

@Kachina624  You are right. No one is interested in these things. I have a twelve piece place setting of China and every serving piece imaginable. Also have the silver for twelve and all the serving pieces. I may have used some of them once. I don't know what to do with them.

What is troubling to me is a move in society to discard any type of holiday or celebration as if there is no reason behind them.

Not just faith based celebrations but Memorial Day, Independence Day and the like. Let's erase the day and tradition.

There was a reason the women who went before us took the time and trouble to plan a holiday meal, decorate, send cards and set a table.

It seems the technocrats, fueled by their advertising dollars would like you sit in front of your MIC device on your MIC sofa while wearing your MIC sleep pants and being mezmerized by their fake content. All while hoping you believe it.

@Katchina  You're right.  We live in a face paced society that complains they want things to slow down, etc.  Yet in keeping traditions and making nice memories, they overlook the niceties that I mentioned.

If you go to other parts of the world, the moneyed crowds have the nice things and wouldn't have things any other way.  Here things have been lost so that folks can use their time doing ??????

I like my things and when I pass on, whoever wants them or not can have them all.  I have the memories to take with me.

@goldensrbest- I bought a beautiful Reed & Barton service for 12 stainless 18/10 flatware set with many serving pieces - about 112 pieces in all.  I bought it about 20 yrs. ago for $99.00.  I use it everyday, love it and it still looks new.  Quality product.  Years later they sold 18/0 stainless and it didn't have the same quality shiny look.  They no longer sell R&B.  You see Lenox sometimes, but not that much and not large sets.  Times have changed I guess.  I remember the good ole days of QVC also.
