I need opinions, awkward or not?

I've been to my present hairdresser maybe four times the most over a period of a year. My regular stylist for several years moved away. This new stylist meets my needs ok. She gives me a very nice cut and color, even though the blow outs are not the best, but I manage, as I do my own hair anyway for special occasions.

Today I arrived for my color and I was told by the stylist who works alongside her that she was not in and was ill. She wasn't sure when my stylist would be back and would take my name and number and either she herself would call me to reschedule or my own stylist would. Later they told me she was actually in the hospital. I didn't pry as to why and they were evasive anyway. At first I was taken aback that no one bothered to let me know this, but I explained that I have an important event in a week and I need my color. She called another stylist who also works with them and this woman was on her way in to the salon and was very nice and colored my hair and styled it better than my usual stylist and she was $10.00 cheaper to boot. I couldn't thank her enough and gave her a generous tip, trust me.

Now, to tell you the truth, I would like to switch hairdressers, but I feel it would be way too awkward. My daughter says life is too short and that if I like her better and she is cheaper, that I should just switch as I have not formed a lasting relationship as yet with my current stylist. I just can't see myself doing that without it being so awkward for the stylists and me. I would love to hear some other opinions.

Just for the record, my current stylist never acknowledged the Christmas gift I gave her, which was cash. No thank you note, or even a thank you when I saw her after Christmas. I let that go figuring some people are just like that. But after today with no notice that she would not be there, I'm starting to rethink continuing with her. What do you think?
