We had a very sad event on Wednesday, two days ago: we had our 17-year-old (cat) matriarch little lady, named Spot, put to sleep. She was old and her quality of life was obviously declining. We decided to release her and let her go to Heaven. It broke our hearts but it was what was best for her.
Our other cat, a male Maine Coon mix named BooBoo, is really grieving for her. He's quite subdued and has been looking in all her favorite places for her. It hurts to see him suffer like this.
I think we will eventually adopt kittens but I think I should let him finish grieving first. Is that a good idea? And can anyone help think of some way to help him through this? He's being especially clingy so of course I have him on my lap, on my bed with me, etc., any time he wants. I'd give him cat treats but he doesn't really like them.
TIA for any help you can give me.
