My brother painted a portrait of my beloved sister and her horse recently. My sister died two years ago in August. Although not a professional painter by any means, he did get a good likeness of her and sent us all emails with the painting attached.

My nieces are over the moon about this portrait, and one of their husbands offered to pay my brother for the original portrait. I don't know what the outcome of that will be.

My dilemma is this. If my brother wants to keep this portrait for himself, I have no problem with that. He painted it, it's his work. However, if he decides to let my niece have it, I am bothered that he would accept money for it. He should just give it to her, IMO, and I am disturbed by this.

If I am wrong, please tell me so, as it would make me feel better knowing there's nothing wrong with him accepting money for it.
