Re: I love bacon

[ Edited ]

There is stuff called Bacon Salt. It is very low in sodium. I understand that it does taste like bacon. My husband loves bacon too. He has this in supply because he lost his sense of taste back BEFORE covid. He can not tastes a lot of the different bacons. This he can taste and puts it on his potatoes or on his burgers.

Just an idea.

I really, really do. Unfortunately, my cardiologist has given me orders to never eat another slice of the good stuff for the rest of my life. I mean, how can a life without bacon can be a good life? My question to you is can anybody here tell me if they have found a replacement for bacon that even resembles the taste of the real stuff? Can anybody tell me if that awful looking turkey bacon is edible? Or is that full of fat and sodium too? Hope springs eternal.

I'd find a different cardiologist if he's being that rigid.  Some bacon on occassion shouldn't be detrimental.

I doubt there's a suitable substitute.  I mean, what's the difference if you choose ham or prosciutto?  They're all similar.  The thought of fake vegan bacon is a big no.  đ꤮

@JeanLouiseFinch LOL. You had the best solution of all. But we have a severe shortage of doctors in our area. So i am stuck with this mean one.

I buy real bacon...uncured, low sodium.  I avoid added nitrates. I know nitrates are in some food naturally.

I freeze it immediately by the slice and only thaw out one or two slices at a time.

I know it's not a healthy food, but in moderation, I continue to enjoy it.  I always cook I extra crispy to burn off the fat.

It's the fat and salt that are not heart friendly.

You can still have the flavor of bacon.

There's so many products that mimic the taste of bacon.

Not saying to necessarily buy from Amazon, but just search the term on their website:

"Bacon Flavor Gum"

and you'll see what I mean.

Don't admit to anything! LOL What can he do?

I'd never give up bacon.  I only have a couple, three pieces once or maybe twice a month.
