I retired at 52, and it's the best. Even though I had a great job, I can't imagine having to go to work every day.

I retired at 62 and it was a great decision. I am very thankful for everyday of retirement. After college and then 40 years of working it was the right time for me.

I like it too! I have been working since I was 12 years old. I babysat everyday for a family friend and her sister after school. One worked in the day and the other at night. Both of their husband's were away in the Navy and Marines. They were both back home with their parents. When I came home from school, I went next door to their house and babysat so the one that worked at night, could go to sleep. I stayed until 6pm when the other sister came home. They both had babies, 6 months old. As soon as I turned 14 and got working papers(in 1967) I started getting real jobs. After high school, I went to community college, to be a nurse(still working full time, evenings) then 9 years later, when I had my second child, I went back to school to be a Teacher(still working as a nurse, part time and summers). I've been retired eight years. When I went to Social Security, the lady said, "since,1967( I was 14), you've worked every year except, these 4. "I bet that's when you had your kids." She was right! So yes, I like being retired! I worked a lifetime!Smiley Happy

MeowingkittyI was so sick of corporate America that when I got laid off in 2014 it was a blessing and I was the only one who had a smile on their face in the meeting.  Never went back to work. Don't miss it either. No office drama, no commute, no what am I going to wear today, no office politics. Do what I want, if I want, when I want. If I don't sleep well, it's no big deal. I too would hate todays work environment. I don't like to play stupid corporate games.

Meowingkitty -  You are spot on!  I worked on Wall Street - so much office c--p.  Dealing with super egos, politics,back-stabbng, wives of bosses who were even worse, traveling in the freezing snow, heat, rain storms , etc., etc.  I bless every morning when I am sitting in my pjs with my cup of coffee and not worrying about rushing to go anywhere.  Retirement is complete bliss!!!!

Re: I like being retired

[ Edited ]

@Kitlynn   I thought I was the only one up at 3 a.m. reading my book.  I try to go to bed at 3 am, but if I am at a pivotal part of the book, sometimes I look at the clock and oh my goodness, it is now 4 am and I better get to bed.

Of course I don't get up til Noon.  DH goes to bed at 10 p.m and meets his friends for coffee at 6 am.  Sometimes he is getting up when I am going to bed.  I have always been a nightowl but it is alot easier being retired.

DH is having lunch while I am having breakfast.

I do miss working tho.  Loved my job, being around a lot of different people, getting dressed up and going out to lunch and all that.

I'm still working in the same office for going on 38 years (68 y/o now), and have worked through some really awful periods of insomnia.  I have made it through a some rough days on less than an hour of sleep.  The pandemic has been such a blessing for me, first by allowing me to work from home and spend a little more time sleeping in when I would normally have been commuting, and also being able to nap a wee bit on my "lunch break".  When we were able to return to the office, I was able to negotiate being able to work from home the first couple hours in the morning before heading into the office, and also work from home a couple days a week.  If it had not been for this I probably would've had to retire by now, but this lower-stress schedule has greatly improved my insomnia issues.

I just retired at the end of 2022 at 61, almost 62 after 37 years with the same place.  The last three years we all worked from home so I did sort of ease into retirmement.

I thought I would miss it but I don't at all, I watch my 1 year old grandson for a few hours a day then make dinner and the day is gone!  Like someone else said not sure how I had time to do everything before!

I am almost 71, my DH is retired, but I still work 3 half days a week, I love my job and cant imagine waking up in the morning without having a job to go to, keeps me sharp, social and happy. I have so many friends who retired and then took part time jobs, I am already there!!!

I had to leave my job because of a work injury, I worked there for 33 years. I'm only 55 and it's hard adjusting to not working. The only part I enjoy is not having to go out in the terrible weather. I miss the people I used to work with.
