So sorry to hear about your wasp and coffee incident.....hope you are feeling better....
A couple years ago I heard a CRASH on my patio I went to investigate....it seems my curious kitties knocked over a stand that had a decorative bird house on it...unbeknown to the cats and me the bird house was the home of paper wasps....these wasps are not normally aggressive unless you disturb their nest...which my kitties had done, so when I went out to see what happened....my cats ran into the house faster than light speed.(thankfully they were unharmed)...but I met the wasps wrath and got bitten (paper wasp have no stingers).....
I was wearing shorts and got bit on the back of my leg, I washed the area and applied Neosporin.....at first my leg was fine, but then it started to swell and turn red....since my Dr's Office was closed I went to Urgent Care, they gave me an antibiotic but the next day it was worse so I went to the Emergency Room...they added a second antibiotic....I was allergic to second antibiotic.....went to my regular Dr...bottom line this little incident cost me $1000.....BAD KITTIES.....
Wasps relocated to corner of my roof and died over the winter....they never bothered me again...And I now buy a fake wasp nest and hang it up so wasps can stay away from my patio...they think mine is already occupied...
But be wary of yellow jackets and bees which are more aggressive...

I don't know why the little pests appear every year around this time and disappear a few weeks later. I assume they are "waking" after winter because are very slow and "dopey". Usually on the floor or a curtain and there's no problem getting them. DD and I are never barefoot, DH is another story. His thing is I've been stung before. I tell him "Yeah, people have no reaction until they do." I walked in the kitchen to see the cat giving a wasp on the floor by her water dish the old stinkeye.

@blackhole99 wrote:Sorry about your mishap, you certainly wouldn't be happy living where I live. Every summer the Carpenter bees come out of the logs outside our house and the wasps build nests everywhere. All the local honey bees and those pesky yellow jackets, I have been stung so many times. I have no fear of bees, but spiders are another subject, I have seen wood spiders scurry from my raised veggie beds the size of my palm.
With bees wasps I have philosophy...you leave me alone, I'll leave you alone....I'm not afraid of them, but cautious around them after getting bit...BUT I dont like spiders ..here's a couple I encounted....This one built a web on the side of my house...

This one met me onmy front porch...wolf spider, kinda like a blond tarantula.....

Never squish a spider you might release hundreds of baby spiders....
Thats why I like the lizards....they take care of them....

I'm with everyone on spiders too. I've seen pictures of Huntsman spiders in Australia. The giant ones are the stuff of nightmares. The size of a dinner plate. I think Australia is a beautiful country but I swear everything there wants to kill you.

Im with you....Australia has charming people and an interesting country but the creepiest and some of the deadliest creatures too....Animal Planet did a series and it was terrifying......not a place I'll be visiting...

the main purpose of wasps is to control other sectors of the insect world, reducing populations by eating aphids, flies and caterpillars which damage trees/plants.....
@Spurt Thank you for the insect education!![]()

I've never been stung by a bee, wasp or yellow jacket, but I'm petrified of all of them. I can't believe the horror stories I just read on this thread! Ugh. I'll be having nightmares tonight!! lol

When I was in my 30's I had hung my jeans on the clothes line. we were going out that night so I grabbed my nice freshly washed jeans, got one entire leg in when the bee inside decided to let me know he was there. He got me twice beforeI got them off. My DH watched all of this and after asking if I was ok said, "I haven't seen your clothes come off that fast since our honeymoon." He wasn't funny then and he isn't funny now. lol
