I guess I'll never have another

If you read my "kind of need to vent" post- you know I had to put my 15 year old "inherited" from my Mom when she passed- spca girl to sleep last week. In my life, I've had ( counting her) 5 dogs- a "mix" when i was a teen, 2 scotties, a cocker that went shortly before I took my Mom's in ( which was G's way of closing a door and opening a window" because my cocker ( who I adored even more than the others if that was even possible because I give my heart completely to my dogs) and he didn't get along with any other dogs so I guess it was meant to be despite my sorrow.

Anyhow- whenever I had my pets go- I always thought I couldn't stand to get another because it hurt so much to lose them but I'm getting older now and despite loving my Mom's dog- she was always my Mom's even though I loved her but never as much as my own. I treated her like my own- she was a sweetie.

I found myself looking at want ads and online dog ads, the spca, the rescues etc. But to my dismay- people are asking outrageous prices for dogs ---even older ones- yes the rescue and spca's at least have them spayed already but long gone are those days when you saw a box of puppies for sale or even free. Being on a limited budget and after the vet bills have climbed so ( my cocker had cardiomyopathy those bills were crazy) and then just the basic care for my Mom's little lady ( who was generally in good health for most of her years) I don't see how I can afford another.

It's making me very sad. I'm still mourning the loss of her- she was 15+, and a link to my Mom, and still missing my cocker over 2 years ago --but my dh is retiring and we won't have the money. I'm allergic to cats now ( I had one in the past as well) so that's not an option either and I don't believe in letting the cats out at night train of thought either -- mine always stayed safe inside)

It's just so depressing.Cheapest I saw was $200 and that didn't include anything but basic shot and worming. What's with these people who are selling mix breeds at these inflated prices. It just seems like they want the money and don't really care about the dogs. One mix I never heard of was listed at $750!!! I mean it wasn't even a "designer' breed which is ridiculous the way people are "experimenting" with mixing pedigrees to see what they get! So I guess I just vented again. Sorry.
