Really? I'll have to try that. I tend to use Pippins and Granny Smith for peanut butter, but I'll try a Fuji next time.

@just bee Yes, Pippins and Granny Smiths and too tart for me. The Fujis have just the right amount of crispness and sweetness to make them my favorite.

I think if you like the Fujis, you'll most likey enjoy the Pacific Rose apples. Both of these are my faves.

@rustee I've never seen a Macoun that I am aware of, but if I ever run across them I will give them a try!

Crisp and sweet with a bit of a tart bite. A local orchard has some wonderful ones early in apple season that I wait all year for, but I can't remember their names right now. But I know it when they come in!

I like a good winesap, if it's not too sharp. And a Fuji or a Braeburn are often good around here. I almost ALWAYS buy organic since apples are one of the most hightly sprayed fruits. And I won't touch the ones that travel a good distance and have that horrid coating on them.

One thing I can't stand in an apple is mealyness. It's got to be crisp!

It's been a long time since I've had a Macoun (since I lived up north, I think) but I remember liking them a lot. I do think if you like Fujis you might like Macouns.
