Re: I dread the 4TH of July anymore.

It was awful last night -- constant until between 11:30 and midnight but there's not much to be done because the beaches are policed by the state. Our HOA regulations are that they stop at 10 pm until the 4th and 5th when they can light them until midnight. So much for regulations. Probably kids and adolescents vacationing here don't know or don't care.

A lot of retirees live here but still, plenty of people need to go to work in the morning. I'm trying to shed my cranky pants.

Re: I dread the 4TH of July anymore.

The police around the Bay Area have been busy confiscating tons of illegal fireworks, and I think it really is tons. They say they're not easy to dispose of, it's very costly, not to mention dangerous.

Re: I dread the 4TH of July anymore.

What a shame that you have to ask (plead with?) people to have manners and observe the laws. I bet he probably gets grief from many who don't care one whit about how anybody else feels. They just want to do what they want to do and skrew everybody else. Smiley Sad

I rather dread it also. We have a dog and he has done pretty well with it. It doesn't seem to phase the bird. I have extreme problems with sleeping, so that stuff at night just adds to that problem.

I wonder who started fireworks with holidays. Probably Ben Franklin. lol I like to look at them but I do not like when inexperienced people set them off in their yards. Not only does it bother the dog (he is sound sensitive) but also it is so dry, they could start a fire. They are illegal in NJ. Fireworks at the shore are a weekend occurrence at the boardwalks all summer.

I agree with you about not liking the holiday. It is usually a time to get drunk, act rowdy and cause accidents where I live at the seashore.

Actually it was John Adams....

Thank you for the information!!!

Re: I dread the 4TH of July anymore.

It began at the house next door to me last night. One of my new kitties was curious and I held him up to the window to watch. He was fascinated. My other new kitty who is a scared little bunny went to the basement and wouldn't come out. I can stand most of the fireworks as long as it isn't the M-80's. Those sound like bombs. We have commercial fireworks, though, in my city, so I don't see the need for fireworks in neighborhoods.

Not much fireworks around here. Hopefully there will be some in our bedroom.

Re: I dread the 4TH of July anymore.

It started here with a neighbor about 5 this evening. Sounds like cherry bombs. It's driving my dogs crazy. One barks at the garage door, thinking the sound is someone coming into the garage. All weekend will be bad here in Hooterville PA.
