Re: I dread the 4TH of July anymore.

I love watching elaborate firework shows.

Re: I dread the 4TH of July anymore.

When we moved here 13 years ago, we hated the neighborhood fireworks (so did our dogs). Every Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, and New Years they would set them off, for hours! Fortunately, their kids have grown, many have left or they are working, and the interest in shooting off fireworks has waned. Smile

I wonder who started fireworks with holidays. Probably Ben Franklin. lol I like to look at them but I do not like when inexperienced people set them off in their yards. Not only does it bother the dog (he is sound sensitive) but also it is so dry, they could start a fire. They are illegal in NJ. Fireworks at the shore are a weekend occurrence at the boardwalks all summer.

I agree with you about not liking the holiday. It is usually a time to get drunk, act rowdy and cause accidents where I live at the seashore.

Actually it was John Adams....

Nuyna how about when you buy a brand new expensive mailbox with the nice stand and some one decides to drive by and put one of those M-80 in the mail box and blow it up to shreds.

Our state decided to ban fireworks years ago. Then, for some reason, they lifted the ban and made them legal again a few years ago. Ugh.

Being a shelter volunteer I have come to hate this day. Yes, I agree that the fireworks are so cool but not at the expense of pet/stray animals. I have seen horrific things happen and the celebration of the holiday does not equate to the trauma of our animals. Not worth it to me - IMO!

Personally, I'd like to see them all banned except for designated safe areas. Too many people out there with illegal ones. Fireworks go off for several weeks around the holiday and all hours of the day and night. You have to stay up and make sure your house doesn't burn down. HATE THEM!

I've never had mine blown up...yet. It's been run over numerous times though.

I just wish I had some warning before an m-80 goes off. 2 yrs ago, I was in the yard with my shepherd, and an m-80 went off. We live in a raised ranch and she ran straight through the basement window. Thankfully she didn't get cut. But I've also found bottle rockets in my mulch.

Re: I dread the 4TH of July anymore.

I agree- I despise this holiday because of the fireworks (I pray for lots of rain).

It's SUPPOSED to be illegal here, but they don't enforce it at all. There are tons of reservations that sell the monster, dangerous fireworks that are so disruptive & destructive. People must spend hundreds of dollars on those things. And, btw, you play, you pay. If they blow off their hand lighting one of these things...oh well.

There's a house behind my property that lights these things for 3-4 hours (not kidding- it's non-stop). It's like a mini show. But, it's SO loud + I have to watch for fires. {#emotions_dlg.mad}

Then there are the "bombs" that go off until about 2 am. {#emotions_dlg.angry}

I feel so sorry for the animals, the elderly, & the families with young children who are trying to sleep. Why do they allow this to continue? Between the emergency teams needed for medical & fire + police, the cost must go thru the roof.

Hate, hate, hate it!
