As others have stated, it's the attraction as any fan is to an actor, pro athlete or singer. Even though shopping channel hosts are perhaps a minor form of celebrity, they can have large fan bases some of whom border on "fanatic". People who watch a great deal of home shopping may see a particularly host more often than the star of their favorite sitcom or crime drama and develop a closer attraction.

It is a shame that some folks do not seem to really understand the meaning of the word love.

On the other hand - I do think that some people are so lonely that they do actually get emotionally attached to people on TV.
