TBH having that much cash around for others to know about would make me skittish.

When  I stayed at my Mom's home a few times I went to pay her lawn care guy with a check, he shook his head and said "Greens".  Well, she had no Greens lying around and he was visibly irritated.

Whatever happened to paying after receiving an invoice?  especially for pricey yardwork.

The days of sending a client an invoice for yard work are over.  I'm sure it still exists, but it's the exception, not the rule.

Yard people don't want to wait to get paid and don't want to have to chase their money down.   I don't blame them one bit.

Unless you're a commercial business, I don't see why you would expect the yard guy to mail you an invoice.

If you don't have cash, pay with Cash App, Zelle, or another form of instant payment.

Yard People?  Landscaping/ Lawn care is a service business.  Just like Painting, Carpentry, Septic Pumping, Trash Removal. Do You pay your Garbage guys in cash?

Re: I also have a tipping question

No, I wouldn't tip a service where the owner asks for cash payments. My tip is covered in the cost, because they aren't paying taxes (my painter and handyman readily admit that).

Re: I also have a tipping question

My son at 16 worked at a breakfast counter drug store. He told me once, please tip people as much as you can. Ever since, I remember that and try to do so.

Re: I also have a tipping question

@Group 5 minus 1 That doesn't explain why people must start multiple posts on the same subject that has been discussed recently. Why not just respond to the OP that started another thread? My statement  was "I'm not sure why there are multiple posts regarding tipping lately." meaning, instead of starting an entirely new post to respond to another post that is very current, just respond to the original post. Hopefully this is clearer. This happens occassionally with other subjects as well.

It may just be me but I find it odd to start new posts when a person is responding to one that was posted just hours before.

Re: I also have a tipping question

Well thanks for all of your various replies.  It seems that most don't tip for this service but some do.   I was wondering what the norm is on this topic....that was all but since threads tend to go off topic (I am guilty as well)..I'll add my extra thoughts on this....

As for how I paid him, he prefers cash but I never said that he wouldn't accept a check.  I have NO PROBLEM paying cash and since it's legal to pay with cash it is my right to do so.

Do I know for a FACT that he is trying to not pay his fair share of taxes?....NO, I do not and I'm not asking him since it's not my business.

As for the cost, after asking around and speaking with a relative who does this sort of work (but on a larger scale), I feel what we paid was a fair price.  Not all was profit for him.  The amount of mulch cost around $200.00 to begin with and since he came back this morning for another hour, he worked a total of 6 hours.

Now some may not agree with me or some will do the work on their own and that's fine.  We used to do this work ourselves too.  However DH simply can't do this kind of yard work any longer and neither can I.

Re: I also have a tipping question

Im not paying anyone $950 in cash.  I don't even understandand that.  If he doesn't accept credit or debit cards, I do get  that but he  should use Venmo, Zelle, Cash App to get his cash payments.  If it was me, I would have rounded up to $1000 with $50 being a tip.

@haddon9   It surprised me about the cost of mulch til I got it done last year.  I know the cost for mulch was 300 and more . That was wholesale, and he had delivered to our driveway.  Before he arrived.  And mine was a medium priced one. There are mulches more expensive than I got. I don't like the orange mulch so much, so I got this earth colored one

@shoekitty I also don't care for the orange colored mulch and we got the dark brown one.

I have to say that this morning when I went out to the front of the house to see how it looked, they did a great job!  Makes the house look so much better freshly mulched with no weeds in the flower beds plus the grass is very green right now.

Re: I also have a tipping question

I also get an invoice mailed to me monthly from my landscaper for lawn services. I don’t know why I wouldn’t expect to get an invoice when it’s a legitimate business.🤔
