@chrystaltreewrote:The IRS computer did it's job and you are getting the refund you were entitled to. Good for you but that's what IRS is supposed to do. As for single people and deductions; there are tons of deductions that single people are entitled too. Single people own homes and property and have investment income and children and everything else that everyone else has. You don't have deductions other than the standard deduction due to your lower income and lack of resources....not because you aren't married. No, there are no "people" sitting at desks processing the the 100 million or more tax returns...lol Even the returns that are done on paper and sent in by snail mail are scanned or keyed into the computers for processing.
I bet you are a real joy at a dinner party.
@Nonametoday. Took the words out of my mouth. A simple, “Isn’t that nice for you” would suffice.

@tansywrote:So, @Laura14, is it possible you have overpaid taxes for other years?
I don't think so. I know a computer must check everyone and they just don't take your word for it. The only thing I did different last year is I did throw some savings money into my HSA to match the single contribution amount since I'm leaving my job shortly and I don't know when I'll have insurance again.
I know that lowers your taxable income but did not realize it would be to that extent. I'll be doing that again for sure!

Not necessarily true.A single mom making under (roughly) $48,000 can collect up to over $6,000 in EIC she didn't pay in. For a family, I believe that income maximum is somewhere in the mid-$50,000 range.
Gift from the government, as you put it.
@magicmoodz I did not post the above, 151949 made the post. For the life of me, I don't know how it was placed as if I made it, very strange huh? And, my apologies to 151949, I am not at all trying to steal your thunder, I honestly don't know how your post was placed as tho I made it, so sorry! L<3
Please take another look at my post. I51949 responded to YOU and I responded to HER. Currently the board is not working correctly and notifies everyone named in a post.
If you can follow the order of posts you will see you needn't apologize, nor should I.

@Laura14, I am no tax expert by any stretch but I think the IRS routinely checks your math and that you reported all income that the IRS has received on you and looks for *flags* that an audit may be warranted.

@tansy I actually went back and looked again and there was a place to click to see what the mistake was.
I clicked and either the math was wrong which I think is funny since their forms "do the math" for you when you click (impossible to enter it yourself) or the number of deductions was incorrect. I have no deductions other than the standard one.
My guess is their forms had a bug in the auto calculation or hiccuped with my submission and were not "doing the math " properly and it was caught. I e-filed super early because of the Equifax breach so they may have had a software issue out of the gate.
Either way, I'm waiting for them to show me my money!

WARNING ABOUT EXCESS REFUNDS!!
Beware of the latest tax refund scam that I just read about this morning in the Atlanta metro newspaper. IRS supposedly has issued a warning about it and said thousands have been duped already.
Crooks get your bank account info and refund amounts (sometimes from tax preparers who must be part of the scam) and then arrange for too much of a refund to be deposited in your bank account.
Then you get contacted by crooks claiming to be from the IRS, demanding the excess refund back...........and people are falling for this, because they don't want to mess with the IRS.
@novamc1 Thank you. I e-filed directly with the IRS, no third party because I don't want to pay the fee, so this is the actual IRS checking and refunding unless they have a rogue employee.
@Laura14 That's the scam I was talking about. Just did not hear all the bits & pieces on the news the other day.
Scammers need to get a life & not a life of crime.???

@151949 Yes & thank you. However, I am expressing my happiness for Laura14, she is so excited about this. Have a relaxing Sunday!
And that's not even always the case. I do taxes and I've prepared returns where people don't pay in close to what they end up getting back, mostly due to the earned income credit.

@Lipstickdiva HI, I WANT ALL TO KNOW THAT SOMETHING IS MESSED UP ON THIS POST, I DID NOT POST ANYTHING ABOUT TAXES AT ALL! I SIMPLY WISHED LAURA14 MUCH HAPPINESS TO SHARE IN HER'S FOR HER TAX RETURN! NO WAY DID I SAY ANYTHING RELATING TO ANY KIND OF TAX REFUND, ETC., ETC., ETC. SOME HOW MY POST & 151949'S WAS SWAPPED, POSSIBLY A COMPUTER PROBLEM W/ QVC AS I AM NOT COMPUTER SAVVY & CAN NOT FIGURE THIS OUT. PLEASE EVERY ONE, KNOW THAT I ONLY MADE A POST TO LAURA14 3/4/18 & WISHED HER HAPPINESS & ONCE AGAIN, I DID NOT POST ANYTHING ABOUT TAXES. THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH FOR UNDERSTANDING! DEAR LIPSTICKDIVA, I AM SO SORRY FOR RESPONDING TO YOUR POST LIKE THIS, BUT I RECEIVED A FEW COMMENTS ON THE TAX POST THAT 151949 POSTED, NOT ME. ANYWAY, YOU MAY WANT TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE WITH HER SINCE SHE POSTED IT, NOT ME. THANK YOU & HAVE A GREAT DAY! WITH THAT SAID I AM CONTACTING QVC TO DISCUSS WHY SOMETHING LIKE THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED, SINCE THEY CLAIM TO MONITOR EVERYTHING WE POST. LEILONI

Oh no @Lipstickdiva. Now you will be accused of whining about those impoverished people getting government handouts.
