WARNING ABOUT EXCESS REFUNDS!!

Beware of the latest  tax refund scam that I just read about this morning in the  Atlanta metro newspaper.  IRS supposedly has issued a warning about it and said thousands have been duped already.

Crooks get your bank account info and refund amounts (sometimes from tax preparers who must be part of the scam) and then arrange for too much of a refund to be deposited in your bank account.

Then you get contacted by crooks claiming to be from the IRS, demanding the excess refund back...........and people are falling for this, because they don't want to mess with the IRS.

OMG ! hope , that isn't true for her sake. We get ours, when ,we get one, by mail.

I pay $145.00 a year to get my taxes done.  Outside of the fact I hate bookwork, the average person just can't keep up with tax law.  We have IRA's and modest investment income, some of which is Greek to me.  My girlfriend insists on doing her own taxes and she recently got a penalty plus interest for some honest blunder.

The IRS computer did it's job and you are getting the refund you were entitled to.  Good for you but that's what IRS is supposed to do.  As for single people and deductions; there are tons of deductions that single people are entitled too.  Single people own homes and property and have investment income and children and everything else that everyone else has.  You don't have deductions other than the standard deduction due to your lower income and lack of resources....not because you aren't married.  No, there are no "people" sitting at desks processing the the 100 million or more tax returns...lol   Even the returns that are done on paper and sent in by snail mail are scanned or keyed into the computers for processing.

I bet you are a real joy at a dinner party.

@Laura14  WTG, Laura! Happy dances. Invest that money and make it work for you. Smiley Happy

Am I the only one on these boards who files the long form, has it done by a CPA and pays in every year? No, I'm not going to let the government use my money throughout the year. That money is well invested and earning great dividends and interest for me. Smiley Happy

I'll gladly pay what I owe on April 15th . . . and not before!

Money screams; wealth whispers.

So, @Laura14, is it possible you have overpaid taxes for other years?

@Laura14

good for you! you'll probably get a official letter in the mail from IRS explaining your new refund amount.  I know that feeling!

About 9 months ago I got a letter from IRS.  I cringed opening it because 4 years ago I got the dreaded IRS letter demanding I owed $18,975🙀😬 in taxes. What?

It was a computer glitch they entered my return (or the person feeding it into the scanning process) anyway, it as a error & confirmed by letter from them. I then could breathe again..lol

So this new letter came telling I put the wrong amount in a certain box & therefore made my taxable income wrong. Six weeks later I got a nice "bonus" check with letter of explanation, of course, I was doing happy dance.  It went towards the windows in my home.

Enjoy your extra ca$h😀
