I just got a call from the fraud department from my Chase Visa card. Apparently $11.97 has tried to be charged to my credit card in August, October, and today. Supposedly it was charged to Amazon, which I do purchase from but never with this card. I'm being issued a new card. Just wanted to say be on the lookout for small charges to your statements which can go unnoticed, big purchases like trips for thousands of dollars are easier to spot.

Had a political candidate charge numerous $5 political donations to my card in 2008 and again in 2012.  Had a very hard time getting them removed but eventually did.

@Jordan2,  Last year my Barclays card number was being used at Walmart of all places but the amounts were $400 and $300.  My Barclays card caught it before it went through (how I don't know but sure appreciated that they caught it).  I received a call from them and they sent me a new card overnight.  Sometimes it happens when you give your charge no. over the phone.  OMG!  Glad you are okay.

Just happened to us again last month. This is the 4th time.

I check ours online often so I can catch it quick.

I caught it once right when they were getting started.

I just so happen to get online to check something on our statement when I saw a charge to some place I have never heard of.

I called the credit union so they closed the account & issued a new card.

It’s happened to me several times over the last few years. The credit card companies have caught it several times & I’ve caught it the other times.

It’s very important to review your statements regularly!!

The pros usually start with a very small charge, often $1 or $2, just to see if they can get away with it.  I've had that happen 3-4 times and B of A has always caught it.

Someone tried to pull this on my Visa card about 4 years ago. It was a charge under $10.

Sadly for them, I check my bank and credit card balances EVERY SINGLE DAY! I immeidately called Visa Fraud and they took care of it.

The same thing was tried a year later. Visa handled it and issued me a new card. No problems ever since.

I have text alerts on my cards.  As soon as a charge goes through, I immediately get a text.  If I didn't use it and got a text, I would know right away.

Golly, I thought we were the only ones !

Hubbo, uses one card just for Hulu to charge to and then he noticed

somebody had charged 1.29 and some other tiny amount that neither of

us recognized less then 5 bucks.

Card cancelled, new one sent.

I'm pretty sure that most people already know that the biggest form of credit card theft is the low dollar charges, like under $10 that most of us don't really look at or if we question it, we think "maybe it's legit".  It's why I use my debit cards for almost everything I buy except for high ticket items.  I don't have the time or strength to play credit detective every month.  If heaven forbid, my debit card gets hacked, they only get what's on the card. They don't have access to my entire line of credit.
