I Had a Strange Guest For Breakfast

Good Morning! Right after I got up this morning, I looked out the window as I was preparing to feed my two cats. I noticed the chipmunks and two bunnies running around the yard and a great big animal running after them. At first I thought it was a cow, but it turned out to be a chocolate lab. He was eating the food we had thrown out for the birds last night. I went out and petted him. I live in a small city and know that there are ordinances against dogs running free. He had a collar and tag on, so I brought the dog to the inside backporch, called the owner, but the number was disconnected. I then called the animal shelter, but they were not open, so I called the police. They tracked down the owner somehow. Well, "Trooper" ate 3 slices of cheese, most of the bread we had thrown out, and a bowl of cat food. I didn't know if I should feed him cat food, but I put a bowl on the backporch, and he "wolfed" it down in about one bite...so funny, as my two cats will nibble at it all day. Finally, a girl about 100 pounds showed up to claim him. So funny...no wonder he got away from her! He definitely outweighted her! She said they had moved but not changed the tags on the dog, and he got out last night. Please, everyone, keep your dog tags updated. This was a beautiful, friendly chocolate lab, and I'm happy that we had a good outcome, but it could have been disastrous.
