I Had My Sleep Study Last Night

I had to be at the sleep center by 7 p.m., but I arrived straight from work by 6:20, which meant that I had to wait for 40 minutes before they opened.

I tried to tire myself out in preparation for the study, by getting up extra early (5:30 a.m.) and going to the gym and getting a workout in. I abstained from ALL caffeine, too.

My nurse was really nice and friendly and talkative. My room had a flat screen tv, and a sleep number bed. Apparently, I'm a 70. Anyway, lights out was at 11:00 p.m., but by 10 o'clock, I turned off the tv and the lights.

Then, this voice from nowhere said, "Are you ready to be hooked up, Yuban?" I said, "Yes?", cautiously. So, my nurse came in and got me all hooked up, then went into her little room, and ran some tests to make sure that all the leads were working.

I laid there and tossed and turned. It was difficult for me to relax, because all I had was a sheet and a thin blanket. In other words, I was cold. But, eventually, I did fall asleep.

Then I was woken up at 2:30 in the morning, so that she could put the nose mask on me. It took me what seemed like a good half hour to get used to wearing this thing on my face that was blowing air up my nose. But, eventually, I did manage to fall back asleep.

Then at 6:30 in the morning, I was woken up again, had everything disconnected, and was sent home.

I asked the nurse how bad was my snoring, and she just told me that I didn't snore with the nose mask on. So, now, my read-outs will be studied, numbers will be crunched, and it'll be about 1 - 2 weeks before I'll find out the results of my sleep study.

If I were a betting woman, I'd place good money on my ending up with a breathing machine, and a nose mask.

We shall see.
