I Got My Flu Shot Today

[ Edited ]

I went to Rite-Aid to get it, and it was free (through insurance).

After filling out the paperwork, and waiting around for what seemed like forever, I was finally called back.

I was asked if I felt well, had any cough or loss of taste, yes, I feel well, and no loss of taste) and had my temperature taken with a digital forehead scanner.

I was asked how everything was going, and I said, "Fine, except that at this point, I expect to see pterodactyls flying"

"Oh?" was her response .

"Yeah, because it's been such a crazy year."

I would've thought that the joke was implied .

Guess not.

She gave me my shot, and I didn't even feel it, then I was on my way.

The last time that I had the flu was January 31, 2003.

I remember that because I remember my temperature rising, feeling awful, and putting on sweats, and climbing in to my bed, and cranking my electric blanket and electric mattress pad to 10, after taking some Nyquil.

I was determined to sweat that bug out of me.

Some time in the night, my fever broke, and next morning, I shuffled out to the living room and turned on the news, only to learn that the Space Shuttle Columbia had exploded upon re-entry.

So that's how I remember when I last had the flu

Next month, shingles shot.

I am not going to get shingles.

Nope.

Don't want it, because I hear that they are painful, and I'm a wuss when it comes to pain.

I cry if I have split-ends, I don't even want to know how painful shingles are!

I am still waiting for vaccine to come into Wal-Mart Pharmacy.  Walgreens was out also in my town. I am on a call list when it comes in. I tried last week when they ran out. My GF got hers in September but I lime to wait until October so it lasts longer in the year.

Well good for you. I got mine last week. It's routine in the fall to do so.

FYI  had shingles shot a couple weeks ago. Pharmacist warned me that might have reaction like feeling achy, flu-'like, etc.  I didn't get concerned since I have never had reaction to shot.  Next day I did feel achy and slight chills. I took nap.  Next day all better.  I mention because I don't want to have something big planned for next day.

I have never had the flu shot but have been thinking about getting one for the first time.  Since I have never had the flu, I really have no idea how sick anyone can get.  I just read that if you have aches and other side effects from the shot, that this is how you know that the antibodies are working.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!
