I Found Yeast for my Bread Machine!

Since the stay at home order began I have had trouble finding a few things at the grocery store.  Like jars of bread machine yeast.  I really needed a few things so I decided to go to a Kroger store in the opposite direction of the one I usually shop in.  I not only got my yeast, but I also found the large container of Smart Balance spread that I have been trying to get.

I did not go down the aisle of cleaning products so I do not know how that was stocked. Very little toilet tissue but a lot of paper towels.  Did not buy any as I do not yet need them.

Plenty of frozen veggies and other items and cheese/dairy items were plentiful.  Eggs too.

I am in Central Illinois.

There was very very little four.  No bread flour.  White Lily self rising and only about 5 Pillsbury A P flour.  Lots of sugar though.

And the mayonnaise was soo high there.  Hellman's was almost $8!  I did not buy any. It is about half that at Walmart.

Re: I Found Yeast for my Bread Machine!

A while back, I called the King Arthur's baking hot line asking about yeast to use in my bread machine, they told me I can use the instant yeast ... I've been using that ever since.  I normally buy the big package and keep it in the freezer in a lock & lock and I've kept one of the jars I bought many years ago and refill that, which I also keep in the freezer.

I asked what was the difference in using the instant yeast and the regular yeast .. was told that the reglar yeast has to bloom in liquid, where as the instant yeast, doesn't have to, so makes it ok to usepa in the bread machines.

I was finally able to get yeast at this site, I've been using them for a while and I've also bought some of their bread mixes as well

for a while they were out of the yeast, but I kept on checking daily and  finally one day I scored ... lol

@msclassylady717

Thanks for that information!  I have always just bought the jars of yeast in the grocery but since the stay at home order my Walmart has been out of it.  I have been ordering groceries from them and using curbside pick up.  But decided to be brave this morning and try Kroger.  I am glad I did!

It is helpful to know that I can use the instant yeast in place of the yeast specifically labeled bread machine yeast!
