*reads the first posts and facepalms*

*sighs* Okay, 1. I'm glad the kids (and adult) are okay. 2. No driving for any of them until they're all at least 40. That should be plenty enough time to get all that youthful nonsense out of their systems.

This board needs a facepalm emoticon....

I have not idea what the bolded above means. Do however think whatever it means is a negative to my original post. I never read replies before I add my posts. Sometimes I say the same as many others may have said, but that is the way I've done it here for a long time now. Reading what others think could distract from the way I actually feel, so I type and then maybe later read the post prior to mine.

Face in hands, whatever it means.

Oh, no. Not at all, hckynut. The first post was the one made by Marp2. And it wasn't at her I was facepalming, but at was at the foolish teens (and adult) in the story. Facepalm is when you find something so utterly ridiculous, all you can do is sigh, shake your head, close your eyes and the proceed to bury your face in your hand....or both hands.

Sorry for not being clearer. I should have posted "*reads OPENING post and facepalms*"

Re: I Don't Even Know What to Say About This

I have not read the posts but it seems like the kids putting themselves on fire are just lost and need some kind of love or attention. I think this is sick and to go that far is scary........if they can do that to themselves what will they do to someone else. It is just all wrong.........and it started back in the early 90's and late 80's with kids.......

Re: I Don't Even Know What to Say About This

What started in the 80s and 90s with kids? Obviously there are no words to describe the stupidity of this act. But teens have always done stupid things. When my husband was a teenager there were gangfights with switchblades and illegal drag races for pink slips where many kids crashed and got hurt.

I don't know why they cited the driver unless there's more to the incident.

But good grief, and what were they doing out at 5:30 am, I wonder.

Where are their parents?

Well, they weren't drinking or doing drugs, right ???? Isn't that all we asked for ???????

Now they were just being stupid teens, like before they were distracted by the drugs, s-e-x and alcohol. so what say we now ????

Back to the drawing board.

Re: I Don't Even Know What to Say About This

If I read this correctly, I am not sure why the driver is the only one going to court. The other kid lit him on fire, he is the one that should be charged, goofing off or not. If I was possibly on fire, I would lose control of my vehicle too. He could of cost them all their lives. Maybe I am missing something.

What in the world were 15 or 16 year olds doing out at 5:30 in the morning.

I have to say though, the older I get, the less sympathy I have for stupidity. I read an article just recently of a mom who helped her 12 year set himself on fire so they can post it on Instagram. Apparently that is the new trend. The kid freaked out though and put himself out and then needed to be taken to the hospital for burns. There are just no words, I agree.

It's crazy how stupid some people can be!

I don't understand why some want to harm themselves as a joke. I know there are TV shows that are out there showing people do stupid things, they laugh and copy it. Anything goes.

Re: I Don't Even Know What to Say About This

I'll step out of the comfort zone here, as the mother of a teen who just turned 18 and say parenting has a big part in this.

We have always had a rule that my son cannot drive other teens. The only exceptions were an occasional date, and once or twice with PRIOR permission he transported another boy to or from school. He also knew that we had better never catch him in other cars with teens. It would have been an all out assault of his privileges. As long as those cars or the insurance is in our names, we will maintain tight control over who is in our cars.

We have had several local teens die in separate car accidents in our rural area in the last couple of years. It is terrifying what they think they can do behind the wheel of a car. They have such a feeling of being invincible at this age. I'm just glad no innocent bystander (or people in other cars) were involved.
