With the storms the last couple of days, it finally cooled off enough for me to enjoy my coffee outside and to "play" with the hummers. It was satisfying and relaxing.

Wow - I have never seen a Humingbird eat out of one's hand like that. Truly amazing! Thank you so much for posting this photo.

I've never seen a hummingbird eat from a person's hand either!
So beautiful! Happy you were able to have that moment captured.
We've been graced with two hummingbirds that have been coming to the front porch plants several times a day. It is thrilling to watch them from a distance - I can't imagine having them (literally) in the palm of your hand.
Thank you for sharing!

@Pezzie Oooo. I would love to have coffee with you and help hand feed the hummers. How miraculous. Thank you for sharing.

That's so neat. Just saw something on TV last night talking about how hummingbirds are constantly on the edge of starving since they can only store enough energy overnight. I never knew that.

I knew about that from an expert at UCLA.
I have a large hummer feeder, and one bird, Fritz, sits in the ficus about 4 feet away, constantly guarding "his" feeder. He's verrry territorial.
Fritz will chase away any other birds that try to feed on his feeder EXCEPT at dusk. As it's getting dark, if any other birds come to that feeder, Fritz will "allow" them to feed. It's a survival thing. If they can't get enough to make it through the night, they'll die.
That's the only time that my little Fritz will share. He refuses to discuss it with me, lol. ![]()

Wonderful photo. So sweet. Maybe I should work more on taming one up. It is breathtaking to get anywhere close. Love seeing their little tongues.

That's pretty neat - the hummers are eating out of your hands!
