Re: How you ever bought a "back-up" of something?

Yes, I always have bought backups of jeans, tops and shoes. If I find something that really fits well, jeans especially, I buy three or four pair, tops, usually every color that I like, and shoes the same. My feet are 9W so hard  for me to find.

Yes, shoes, pants that fit well, lipsticks.  To me those are smart purchases.

Yes!  Lipsticks that are limited edition and I stocked up on Makeup Forever invisible foundation when I learned they were changing the formula.

White tee shirts and white shirts. Jeans and black pants. My favorite ELF eye shadows and blushes since the shades change so much.

Re: How you ever bought a "back-up" of something?

Very seldom @GoldenGate, but I just bought a backup to a white Kate Spade sleeveless shell that looks perfect with quite a few of my work outfits. It's onsale at half price right now.

Due to my penchant for spilling salad dressing on my work-tops when I eat out, I thought it was prudent to save one for "best."  Once in a while I do this, and sometimes I then turn against the garment, don't like it, and send the extra to my sister.

A sister comes in handy that way--and of course in more important ways!
