THANK YOU! And, I saw this yesterday and commented on this. WOW is all I can say. 60-90 seconds out of your life and 24 hours later, it's still being commented on.

I know of a few people who would love to have one more minute to spend with a loved one. Where's the humanity and where's the love. Many have wasted waaaaay too much time about a chance encounter. Geez....get over yourselves and do a nice thing. It cost you NOTHING.

I would too but I don't think the OP did anything wrong by not moving. I wonder how much longer this guy's girlfriend will remain his girlfriend. When I was single, I always paid attention to how my date treated people, especially parents, servers, etc. If he was rude, that was it for me. If he's rude to his mother, imagine how he'd treat his wife and children.

ETA: Oh, I forgot about the dirty look the op gave him. That might have set him off but I sill stand by what I said about how a date treats "underlings". And if a single dirty look can send him into orbit like that, that's worth noticing too.

If he asked nicely I would move. If he was arrogant about it, then no way.

Everyday there are opportunities to show a kindness to someone. I would have moved down.

Aren't you the poster who bragged about throwing catsup in somebody's hair in a fast food joint? Yes, just another opportunity to show someone a kindness, LOL!!

:-) I have not noted the poster's commentary, where I have seen it on the forums, to be overflowing with kindness.

Par for the course here. Moonchilde, have a good Monday! Take care...

Thanks, SR :-)

I guess I have just lived a long time and do what I want and I don't care if some stranger thinks I'm not nice.

Thanks, SR :-) I too am not overly concerned what strangers think, so all the "you are just a silly rude person" responses without anything more constructive doesn't faze me. In these forums it's expected, and you know how people can't bear to disappoint ;-)

If you aren't "overly concerned with what strangers think", why did you even ask for our opinions? I guess you only wanted people who shared your opinion to answer your question.

In any case, my answer is that I would have smiled and moved. No big deal. On the other hand, If I was in that guy's situation, I wouldn't have asked someone to move in the middle of their meal.

Not overly concerned with what strangers, in person (not on a forum) think, or strangers on a forum who not only offer an opinion, whatever it might be, but add deliberate snark or a deliberately negative personal comment. Everyone can offer an opinion, which is why I asked. But I'm not obligated to give any importance to responses that are calculated to be rude. Note that I'm not saying I only want people to agree with me, I'm saying that I don't need to concern myself with deliberately rude or deliberately baiting/inflammatory responses. Is that clearer for you?

Reading your last sentence to me makes me think you know a thing or two about snark, yourself.

It just seems strange to me to ask people how they would feel/react in this situation, then turn around and argue with those who say they would react differently than you did.

No blanket arguments - clarifications where erroneous assumptions were made or only the OP was read, or if replies were made with deliberate snark.

Re: How would you feel/react if ..

How in the world in a minute encounter where he asked if you would move down and you gave him ""the look.."" that you can tell what he is like..such as looks like he is used to getting what he wants..

He only spoke to her like that after she gave him the ""look..."" which clearly indicated she was put out..

Re: How would you feel/react if ..

I think I WOULD NOT have moved....lol If you act like a doormat, someone will treat you like a doormat. It was rude but he ASKED you to move, you could and should have politely declined.
